Looking For A Miracle

The Sixties And Its Religion

The deliberate pursuit of whatever type of sex is considered deviant by one’s own culture is part of the program of spiritual seekers as far removed from each other in time and space as Tantric Hindu, California Satanists, Daoist sorcerers,  Siberian shamans, and paunchy English “witches”, with their scourges and “sky-clad” retreats in the New Forest.  To break tabu is a necessary stage in vama marg tantric ceremonies, for instance, in which dietary and sexual tabus are deliberately broken one after another.  It is recognized by these technologists of the spirit that deviation from socially accepted mores is a powerful tool for awakening the sleeping powers within us, provided that this deviation takes place within the occult engines they have designed.

Peter Levenda- Sinister Forces, Book III, pp. 211-12

The key to the Sixties is Sigmund Freud.  The Sixties was when Freud’s schemes came to fruition.  He turned Aryan civilization on its head.

As unpleasant as it may be to recognize Freud was Jewish and his activities were based on his Jewishness and the age old prophecies that govern Jewish activities.  Freud’s father came from the Galicia that was a stronghold of Hasidic magical Judaism.  Freud himself was a student of the magical Zohar and Kabbalah.

Along with them he acquired the Jewish hatred of the Other, specifically Europeans or Aryans.  He identified his psyche with the Semite Hannibal who attacked Rome- Freud’s symbol for Europe.  In actuality Hannibal defeated Rome in the field.  The Romans retreated within their walls refusing to come out and fight.  Unable to sustain his army Hannibal was forced to vacate Italy.  Thus, although he had won all the battles he couldn’t win the war.  This was a real dilemma Freud had to solve and he did.

Freud began his career as a biologic researcher looking for eel gonads.  Seeing no route to universal fame from that research he became interested in psychology.  Here was some room to move.

Freud was born in 1856 in the midst of the great unfolding of the Aryan mind.  He became associated with a fellow Jewish doctor, Joseph Breuer, who had become involved in researches into hysteria.  This led Freud to the center of research in hysteria at the Salpetriere hospital run by Jean-Martin Charcot in Paris when Freud was about thirty years old.  He could only afford Paris for a few months but they were eye opening months.  He learned the nature of hypnotism and its control element- suggestion.  This would be the stratum on which he built psychoanalysis.

Following Charcot Freud’s first book is an analysis of hysteria.  The book caused no stir.  Turning to associate Breuer and his proto-psychoanalysis Freud studied the nature of dreams.  He characterized dreams as the ‘royal road to the unconscious.’  Following Sherlock’s advice Freud carefully studied the literature on dreams which was fairly extensive.  His dream book flopped failing to make Freud a household word.

While issuing a steady stream of articles he contributed his greatest work in the form of The Psychopathology of Everyday Life in 1901. In 1905 he contributed the useful Jokes And Their Relation to the Unconscious and another significant work that gave a clear indication of Freud’s direction Three Essays On The Theory Of Sexuality. This small volume finally created the fire storm he had been trying for. At the time the book was considered close to or actual pornography. At any rate it attacked prevailing European or Aryan morality breaking all sexual tabus.

While one may argue that Freud’s was a scholarly approach there is undeniable smut to it.  Freud in general reveled in smuttiness.  He always leaves you with a slightly sickened feeling.  There was controversy then as well as now as to his intent.

D.H. Lawrence who was no stranger to sexual theory and controversy denounced Freud in The Plumed Serpent for wishing to destroy prevailing European morality let alone reforming it.  In this opinion he was correct.  Both Sexual Theory and his Theory of the Unconscious and mass hypnosis would be his primary weapons.

Freud, contrary to popular opinion was not the originator or the discoverer of the unconscious nor even an early investigator.  The unconscious had been a hot topic in European thought ever since Anton Mesmer arrived in Paris in mid-eighteenth century.  There were many different ideas concerning the nature of the unconscious but by 1915 Freud had swept them off the board so that by the end of The Great War his perverted version stood alone.  The question was how to use this tool he designed to destroy the conscious mind and manipulate the unconscious to attain his and Jewish ends.

In the nineteenth century the only mass media that could be used to manipulate public opinion, the unconscious, was the newspaper, but the newspaper requires consciousness making access to the unconscious difficult.  It was only in the twentieth century that the great media capable of manipulating the unconscious directed arrived.  Perhaps the most important of these was modern advertising that arose alongside the movies to be followed by radio, talkies and television.  Color photo magazines are not to be overlooked either.  Photographic images go directly into the unconscious.

Of these media the most overlooked is the power of advertising to quickly change mores, for it was mores that Freud had to alter or modify, the way of looking at and thinking about things.

Freud had a nephew in the US by the name of Edward Bernays.  Bernays being Freud’s wife’s maiden name.  Eddie Bernays became a publicist with George Creel and the Committee on Public Information during WWI turning to publicity as a vocation after the war.  Thus he became a premier advertising consultant.  His influence today is greatly overlooked.

The CPI was a tremendous propaganda, indoctrination and conditioning machine.  The Wilson administration bludgeoned the American public into its party line.  Bernay’s would use those techniques to change the mores of the American people post-war following Freud’s ideas.  First he visited his Uncle Sigmund in Vienna where they had long summer walks and quiet talks.  What was said isn’t known but can be inferred from Bernay’s subsequent career.

According to Wikipedia quoting his daughter Anne Bernays felt that the public’s democratic judgment was ‘not to be relied upon,’ and he feared that [the American public] could very easily vote for the wrong man or want the wrong thing, so that they had ‘to be guided from above.’

Of course, who is to judge who is the wrong man and on what basis as well as the wrong or right thing.  Who is the infallible ‘above’  who is going to force his candidate on the erring people?

In other words, Bernays wanted a dictatorship of virtue.  Unable to disturb the political system in one fell swoop it would to be don incrementally.  Using techniques imbibed from his uncle’s political agenda Bernays did just that experimenting first through the commercial field.

Old fashioned advertising in print, as radio and TV hadn’t come into existence as yet, consisted of long prose pleas trying to persuade the conscious mind.  When color printing came into common use an attractive image coupled with product ID and snappy slogan, or propaganda,  would prove to be more effective.  Thus to promote Lucky Strike cigarettes there was an incredibly attractive slender woman smoking a Lucky with the slogan ‘Reach for a Lucky instead of a sweet.’  The ad then carried a number of subliminal  messages as well as the plea.

When Bernays began his work the Aryan female ideal was the Arthurian conception portrayed most notably in the Pre-Raphaelite paintings.  Virginal and desirable as a wife.  Freud’s sexual goal was to invert that image to turn Aryan women into sluts.  Smoking in women was considered sluttish at the time just as cosmetics were symbolic of the prostitute or painted woman.  Good girls didn’t wear lipstick.  Bernays through his advertising techniques was to change all this.

Meanwhile back in Vienna, Freud was developing techniques to change the mind.  As always an avid student of literature Freud latched onto a small book by the Frenchman Gustav Le Bon titled:  The Crowd: A Study of the Popular Mind.  Freud incorporated Le Bon’s studies into his own Group Psychology and the Analysis of the Ego.  By ego he meant group ego not the individual ego.

The analysis of Le Bon meshed with the advertising propagandistic ideas of his nephew.  Freud then combined their work with his understanding of sexuality, drugs and his version of the unconscious  to undermine Aryan civilization.  Remember he was successful in imposing his vision of the unconscious as the only version of the unconscious on the entire psychological and psychiatric discipline, hence society as a whole.

Aiding the effort was the triumph of  Adolf Hitler in 1933 in Germany.  Hitler’s anti-Jewish stance drove the whole horde of Freud’s disciples out of Europe to the United States.  While Freud knew what he knew the other members of his psychoanalytic order didn’t.  I don’t mean to be unkind to Freud’s personal lumpenproletariat but they just didn’t grasp what he was talking about.  Nevertheless they were accepted at face value becoming not only influential but directors of US culture during the fifties and sixties after which their prestige began to wane.

Most of them settled in the two culture capitols of the US, NYC and LA so that the media took their lead from them.  While few, if any, understood Freud his vision of the unconscious as a discrete entity extraneous to the mind and actually the body while controlling one’s actions to the exclusion of the conscious mind was readily accepted and adopted as was his notion of repression in a completely distorted form.

The reality of Freud’s vision of the unconscious was quickly picked up by sci-fi writers who turned out a stream of such novels as  Jack Schaefer’s I Am Legend, Jack Finney’s Invasion Of The Body Snatchers and Heinlein’s The Puppet Masters.  Not that we consciously understood at the time.

The State of Israel had come into existence in 1948 setting the Middle East ablaze in a series of wars.  The 1956 war was a turning  point for the Jews.  They had been shamed by their non-resistance to the death camps so the ‘56 war allowed them to assert their manhood and become fierce warriors driving US tanks and jet fighters.  The war also had intellectual consequences.

Aryan Europe and America had astounded the world by its astonishing scientific discoveries and intellectual development unshared by the rest of the world including the Jews.  Emboldened by their military success they set out to reassert their pre-scientific religious dominance they felt they had enjoyed throughout history until the nineteenth century.   Indeed a Jewish woman named Barbara Spectre has established the Paideia Foundation in Europe to claim a parity between what she calls Jewish Knowledge and Aryan Knowledge.  She specifically says that the future will not be like the nineteenth century when science wrested the crown from the Jews.

This is apparently not the first such crisis of the Jewish mind.  A site called Jewniverse published a short piece credited to Daniel M. Bronstein on 7/19/13.  I reproduce it here in full:

Quote:

Talmudic lore offers many episodes of rabbinic sages intellectually defeating the luminaries of the Hellenistic world.  Far less common are instances of rabbis dismembering their pagan nemeses.  So 2nd-century Rabbi Joshua Ben Hananiah really stands apart.

Acting on Roman Emperor Hadrian’s dare to abduct Athens’ top philosophers, Ben Hananiah traveled all the way to the celebrated city-state and coerced a local into revealing the secret location of the philosophical academy.

Upon reaching the heavily defended abode, the esteemed rabbi tricked the academy’s elders into killing the guards.

In a match of wits, Ben Hananiah demonstrated his intellectual superiority while exposing the vapidity of Greek wisdom.  After kidnapping 60 of Athen’s best, he brought the scholars before Hadrian, who placed their fate in the sage’s hands.

Using what can only be called magic, Ben Hananiah caused the philosophers’  shoulders to be violently wrenched from their bodies.  All of them were killed.  Other sages, like Hillel the Elder, have been praised for almost superhuman patience.  But Ben Hananiah’s actions present another view of the sages: as people who were extraordinary, but flawed.

Unquote.

Of course Plato’s academy had neither a secret location nor was it heavily guarded but it makes a good story that flatters Jewish sensibilities, apparently of a highly bloodthirsty order.  Thank god he didn’t pull Moses, trick and send ten plagues on the poor nitwit, stupid Platonic academicians.  How Barbara Spectre is going to replicate Rabbi Hananiah remains to be seen.  Let’s hope she doesn’t operate in the same realm of fantasy as the good rabbi.

Just as Moses through Yahweh destroyed Pharaoh, as Rabbi Hananiah demolished the hated Platonic Academy so Freud had calculated the destruction of nineteenth century Aryan science.

Nineteen-sixty was the critical year.  Western American society reached its apex in that year, but the demands of the scientific attitude exceeded the ability of the body politic to rise to it.  The people slipped back to a pre-scientific mentality.  Whether we saw it or not the crash of Western society that resulted in the Manson murders and the Rolling Stones at Altamont began in 1960.  Actually the much celebrated Woodstock concert of ‘69 was evidence of the intellectual retreat also, a premonition of Altamont.

By 1960 TV had reached a certain level of maturity.  During the fifties when programming was developing most locales had only one or two networks while there was some concern TV wouldn’t make it commercially.  By 1960 the three networks and independent system was in place.  The sitcom and drama setup was well organized.  Hollywood had learned the Freudian formula of using the medium for indoctrination and conditioning.

The fifties had been the great creative period for science fiction both in literature and movies.  This whole body of outstanding material  was now mined by TV.  Rod Serling’s Twilight Zone successfully invaded the minds of millions while the gold standard was probably Gene Roddenberry’s Star Trek.  Both producers were Jewish.

It is impossible now to recount the propaganda, indoctrination and conditioning of the many, many series and thousands of episodes representing tens of thousands of hours of viewing that made war on established beliefs gradually weaning the multitudes from old mores to new.  Mostly the old mores with different content much as new religions build their religious edifices on the old religion’s sites.

The new religion was Saturnic or in another word, Satanic and the hallmark of Satanism is violence.  Few people now remember the TV series, Bus Stop, but that show was a direct assault on established beliefs and attitudes toward violence.  Incredible gratuitous mindless violence for the time far surpassed today when sadistic pornographic violence with nudity or nakedness perhaps a better word, thrown in.

One of the Twilight Zone episodes was a depiction of Charles Beaumont’s short story The Howling Man, the script also written by him, in which Monks somewhere in Ruritania had captured Satan and had him safely locked in a cell where he howled incessantly all night long.  A passing traveler asks for a night’s lodging.  Against their own strict rules forbidding it the Monks weakened and allowed him in carefully explaining to him to pay no attention to the howling man in the cell.  No good deed shall go unpunished.  The traveler naturally listens to the Howling Man’s pleas releasing him.  Satan laughing maniacally shouts Fool and rushes out the door.

Beaumont had divined the situation and put it into symbolic story form.  In the TV episode the sorry Fool spends his life searching for Satan to put him back in his cell.

It is prescient that Beaumont wrote the story in 1959.  By 1966 Ira Levin would develop the theme further when he wrote Rosemary’s Baby about the birth of the son of Satan who replaced Jesus that was made into a very influential movie a year later by that evil presence Roman Polanski.  We’ll get to that.

As is well known Sigmund Freud was a cokehead, a drug addict.  He well knew the deleterious effect of drugs on the mind and morality.  Dreams may be the royal road to the unconscious but drugs are the destroyer of morality.  The Unconscious corrupted by drugs is the end of all law and order.

As Freud, the old cokehead, said there are no coincidences so it follows that the drug explosion of the Sixties is the effect of a premeditated cause.  After all, Arnold Rothstein, a Jew, did organize the drug distribution network of the US in the 1920s.  It can also be no coincidence then that Dr. Feelgood, Max Jacobson, latched onto amphetamines as the great corrupter of society.  Jacobson also claims to have conferred with Freud in Vienna.  Getting underway in the US in post-war NYC in the forties, by 1960 Max was dispensing amphetamines by the gallon.  Imitators sprang up who poured their own gallons of amphetamine into the veins of New Yorkers.  This is fact, now  it should come as no surprise then that by 1966 NYC was overrun by criminal behavior, that seemed to explode in that year.  Or shall we say lack of morality caused by drugs.  In essence New Yorkers could no longer tell right from wrong.  Satanism ruled.  It should be needless to add that Dr. Feelgood was a Jew.  There were many factors causing the erosion of morality in the Sixties not all pertaining to religious developments that are our interest here.

The rise of science caused the intellectual disenfranchisement of all religions but more particularly within the Aryan ranks in which science developed, hence Aryan’s became disenchanted with Christianity while Jews and Moslems reinforced their belief systems against science.

Aided and abetted by Einstein’s Theory of Relativity the notion of moral equivalence took hold.  This was, one might say, cemented by the movie Mondo Cane of 1962.  While moral equivalence should have applied to all religions or moral systems it was turned exclusively against Aryan belief systems.  Movies and advertising reflected the animus against Christianity, Aryans and what Negroes called White Supremacy, that is, White rule and knowledge- science or in Negro terms, Acting White.

With all systems supposedly equal or morally equivalent while consciousness, that is objectivity was suppressed in favor of complete subjectivity or the Unconscious was endorsed, it became an easy matter to inject voodoo, witch craft and Satanism into Aryan belief systems.  Now, the transition to a satanic sensitivity was fully supported by movies and advertising as well as print media.  In 1966 the cover of Time Magazine proclaimed the message ‘God IS Dead’ in black. To the informed that was not a revelation as old gods do die while history is littered with the remains of old gods as epitomized by Shelley’s Ode to Ozymandias.  To the religious Time’s announcement was a huge blasphemy but then, the jury was still out concerning on which side the Luce’s were.

As if in celebration of the Luce’s announcement the Jew Ira Levin published his novel Rosemary’s Baby that concerns the birth of the Son of Satan although definitely by maculate means.  The novel was a commercial success bringing  the little Satan Roman Polanski on the scene who turned the novel into his equally successful movie in the year of revolution, 1968.

The impact of Polanski’s movie was quite extraordinary.  Certainly in the aftermath of the movie Satanism had been, one might say, popularized.  Of course Levin and Polanski didn’t create modern Satanism but they contributed to its manifestation.  The voo doo Saturnian cult had taken root on the East Coast being prominent in NYC.  Santeria as well all the Negro voodoo cults in the New World, of course, derived from Yoruba practices in Nigeria.  The Yoruba people combined aspects of Christianity with their own Yoruba beliefs themselves derived from Greco-Roman religious practices to create a very hybrid religion based completely in magic which through slavery passed into the New World.

Scientology, created by Ron Hubbard, one of those called UFO religions, in the forties somehow gets mixed up in this.  Certain disaffected members established their own church in England in ‘63 called the Process Church of the Final Judgment.  This outfit tried to combine Satan, Lucifer and Jesus into one religion.  No science involved here.  Charles Manson at the end of the decade would be influenced by both Scientology and the Process.

The idea was that Jesus said, Love your enemy.  Satan was the enemy of Jesus so Jesus was compelled to love Satan.  So the two along with Lucifer combined to share humanity so that virtue and evil were morally equal bringing in relativism, so right and wrong are irrelevant because what one calls right another calls wrong and vice versa.  So the law was that ‘it’s all good.’  Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law.  Everything is permitted.  A recipe for disaster no doubt.  A state of social confusion had been created, almost a state of sustained hysteria.

After 1966 LSD became significant reifying whatever beliefs one had into stone.  The fact is that nothing can be gotten out of a mind other than what is in it.  Education is everything.  To really expand one’s consciousness one has to develop it.  With drugs learning stops, especially with LSD.  If anything one only reifies one’s existing opinions.  One may think one is talking to God but notice that God isn’t saying anything back.  You’re only having a dialogue with yourself.   You don’t need LSD to do that.

A biker by the name of John Griggs dropped a tab, saw God, changed his ways and began his own religion based on LSD called The Brotherhood of Eternal Love.  Begun in the LA coastal town of Laguna Beach the cult, or more aptly perhaps, commercial enterprise expanded up and down California and into Oregon where it was especially prominent in Josephine County of Southern Oregon.  It is said the BEL dominated or controlled the marijuana, hash and LSD supply of the West Coast but rather strangely none of the authors concerning themselves with the Process Church or Manson’s Family have heard of it.  These authors seem to think that the Process had a monopoly on that drug trade although dealing with biker groups.  Perhaps the role of the biker BEL wasn’t apparent to them.  All three ‘religious’ groups mentioned above were seriously involved in drugs and hence lead a Freudian unconscious life.

The Process Church founded by Robert and Maryanne DeGrimston in London in 1963 as an offshoot of Scientology soon moved to the sinister sounding site of Xtul on the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico.  There its Satanic, Luciferian and Jesusite form took shape.  As one can see, under the influence of Freudian psychology and the rejection of the conscious mind science had been discarded while consciousness has regressed some thousand years more or in some cases less.  Magic and superstition have once again taken center stage.  Behind the magic cults lay the teaching of one Aleister Crowley of the Golden Dawn and the infamous OTO (Ordo Templi Orientis) with its emphasis on sex magic(k).  The K Crowley added to distinguish his magick from stage magic.  May not look like much of a distinction but it is significant.

So, in 1967 we have Charles Manson being released from prison just as the Hippie thing with its legions of underage runaway girls took shape in the Haight-Ashbury district of the city of San Francisco.  The Haight was a hustler’s paradise and Manson was the man to mine that particular mountain.

More than anything the Hippie phenomenon was a symptom  of the rejection of science, or objectivity and the conscious mind in favor of superstition, subjectivity and the unconscious mind of Freud.  In connection with Freud it should be remembered that the motto of his 1900 book The Interpretation Of Dreams in his Latin quotation from Dante’s Inferno was Flectere si nequeo Superos,  Acheronta movebo which translated means:  If I cannot move heaven, I will stir up the underworld.

Freud had failed at the conscious level of science, which he attributed to anti-Semitism, so when he became aware of the unconscious through Breuer and Charcot he had found his underworld.  But that hell was part and parcel of his upbringing as Judaism is pure subjectivity hence rampant egoism capable only of creating a hell on Earth- hence Hollywood.

The Unconscious in Freud’s vision was the source of Satanic magic.  Hence it can be little wondered that at the very least per the Process Church the world was shared by Jesus and Satan with the Jesusites compelled to love their enemies and presumably turn the other cheek which is to say that Satan Rules.  In his own way the great Satanist Aleister Crowley had won the battle sharing the triumph with Freud.

By the way, the Process Trinity mirrors Greek mythology in which Zeus is the god of Heaven, Poseidon the God of the waters and Hades the god of the underworld.  Earth was the common property of all three.  So the Process reflects old age beliefs.

Because of the horrific nature of his Satanic practices all the attention has been focused on Charles Manson who identified himself as both Jesus and Satan.  Half or better of the biker groups derived their identity from Satan- Hell’s Angels, Straight Satans, Satan’s Disciples, etc.

In point of fact Manson was not doing anything his betters , i.e. Roman Polanski et al., weren’t.  The whole of Hollywood film was involved in Satanic practices.  Nor were Satanic practices new to the LA basin.  All of this cult stuff, snuffings and all was common knowledge in the fifties when I was there in the Navy.  I have no doubt it dated back through the forties and thirties.  Read Raymond Chandler and let your imagination go.  Watch the movies closely.

Manson said the reasons for the Tate-La Bianca killings were not what was thought but that he was no snitch.  It also means likely that these unknown forces were doing their best to help him once arrested as evidence disappeared, police bungled the process so that Manson and the Family might have beaten the rap except for the persistence of Bugliosi.

Manson appears to have been associated with the Polanski clique involving a large selection of A-list Hollywood.  They were involved in drug related Sado-masochistic practices and filmed themselves doing them.  Not surprisingly Manson was doing the same with his group.  Perhaps under the influence of hallucinogenics the significance  of a filmic trail didn’t seem so important.  In any event the police confiscated hours of Sado-masochistic  films from the Polanski residence.  Not unusually these have disappeared although they were offered for sale by the police.

In addition there were huge dope deals on the table that if Polanski wasn’t involved in he was well aware of.  His close friend Frykowski, a Pole from Red Poland, was involved in a scheme to distribute the amphetamine MDA and that would have been through the Polanski residence.    Shortly before the murders a dealer accused of burning them in a dope deal was brought to the residence where in the course of a large party he was strung up and tortured.

A few days later when Polanski was out of town Manson instructed his devotees to strike.  The result was horrific.  While it is said that the dope dealer Frykowski was the actual target it was the horrific death of Polanski’s pregnant wife, Sharon Tate, that garnered the headlines.

We have an interesting thing happening here that seems to have gone unnoticed.  It was a transition of consciousness that affected every member of society though few actively participated.  As an example to illustrate what was happening from 1967 through 1969 I quote from an online publication by an anonymous author concerning the transition from the Weimar Republic to the Nazi Government of Germany.    (    hppt://thespawnofthesphinx.com ) chap.17, p. 4:

Quote:

In his book, “In The Garden Of The Beast”, Erik Larson relates first hand accounts of what it was like to be an outsider (in particular the American Ambassador and his daughter) observing Hitler’s rise from Chancellor to tyrant in 1933.  It was during that year that Germany became absolutely transformed.  “It was like watching a dear friend go insane.” as one outside observer put it.  After the great transition and assimilation, German’s collective mind was “coordinated.”

Larson quoted:

“Beneath the surface, however, Germany had undergone a rapid and sweeping revolution that reached deep into the fabric of daily life.  It had occurred quietly and largely out of easy view.  At the core was a government campaign called Gleichshaltung- meaning ‘Coordination’- to bring citizens, government ministries, universities, and cultural and social institutions in line with National Socialist beliefs and attitudes.

‘Coordination’ occurred with astonishing speed, even in sectors of life not directly targeted by specific laws, as Germans willingly placed themselves under the sway of Nazi rule, a phenomenon that became known as Selbstgleichschaltung, or ‘self-coordination.’  Change came to Germany so quickly and  across such a wide front that German citizens who left the country for business or travel returned to find everything around them altered, as if they were characters in a horror movie who come back to find that people who once were their friends, clients, patients, and customers have become different in ways hard to discern.  Gerda Laufer, a socialist wrote that she felt ‘deeply shaken that people whom one regarded as friends, who were known for a long time, from one hour to the next transformed themselves.”

Unquote, unquote.

The same thing happened in the US in the fifties as Jack Finney recorded in his Body Snatchers, is happening again here at the end of the sixties and is happening now as Obama/Hitler transforms the Aryan mind.  We now have a call for a ‘meaningful dialogue’ on race which means ‘accept our views or be punished.’  There is no dialogue just an order from headquarters.

On a longer wave than Germany one entered the fun house in 1960 and through a bizarre series of dioramas one exited into an entirely different world in 1970.  On the shorter wave the rapid transition took place from 1968’s Rosemary’s Baby to the Rolling Stones fiasco at Altamont in December 1969 which had been scheduled for December 7, the anniversary of Pearl Harbor, but was delayed by a day to December 8th.

As Dylan sang, there was something happening here but few if any knew what it was.  There was no way for anyone to gain sufficient facts to interpret the whole but those with certain roles observing specific parts knew what to do.

Thus the public had no idea what Manson was doing before or after the Tate-La Bianca killings.  The killings themselves obscured everything.  Manson based his attitudes on Robert Heinlein’s  novel of 1961 Stranger In A Strange Land.  Stranger was one of the formative novels of the 60s fitting right in with the psychedelic revolution even though Heinlein had a forties-fifties mentality while adding numerous terms to the vocabulary such as ‘grokking’ and ‘water brother’.

One can imagine Manson reading it in his cell.  Then when he was released actually being a stranger in the very strange land of Haight-Ashbury.  At the same time he realized it was a parallel universe designed with him in mind.  He combined aspects of the two lead characters, the human Valentine Michael Smith raised on Mars and his terrestrial guru Jubal Harshaw.  Jubal means father of all, a role Manson assumed.  He also named his son Valentine Michael.  Smith transformed terrestrial culture as so in his way did Manson.

While on Mars Smith learned the Martian method of mind and body control which Manson adopted and extended to his disciples.  After the killings Manson began living out some desert fantasy in Death Valley.  It was there he really overstepped the bounds bringing the Park Department down on his head which then led to his charge of the murders, but it’s the desert adventure that interests us here.  While the vast majority was unaware of the Death Valley escapade detailed in Ed Sanders, The Family, (make sure you read the first edition) Mansonites saw and learned.  In the desert Manson nearly created his own country living by his own laws.  Unfortunately his prison mentality kept him from grasping his full opportunity .  He was too much the outlaw.

While I didn’t realize it at the time his influence spread up the coast to Eugene, Oregon where I was living at the time.  Those were rough and rowdy times.  There were many crimes, frequently using shotguns.  An especially outlaw area was called Fall Creek.  At one time a truck with a light rack pulled up before a camp site turning the light rack on the campers from the road.  They stood like deer staring into the lights.  The occupants turned rifles on the campers man, woman and children and mowed them down.

As far as I know the police chose not to apprehend them.  It would have been easy.  A brown pick up with a light rack in a small town?  I knew the truck while finding a brown pick up with a light rack should have been easy.  Couldn’t have been more than one in the county.

I was lured out to the area once with my wife by a couple posing as friends.  All of a sudden at eleven o’clock at night they shooed us out of their house.  As one neared the highway a narrow stone bridge crossed Fall Creek, almost a ditch at that point.  As we approached a guy came up from under the bridge, stood in the middle of the roadway waving his arms.  I wasn’t going to stop and there was room to drive around him.  No sooner had I crossed the bridge than another guy came up from under it bearing an automatic with what looked like a silencer on it.  Both began calling me names.  So, I at least, would have been murdered on the spot.

As a footnote Diane Downs of the famous murder case in the same area said she was stopped by a guy waving his arms in the middle of the road.  She was disbelieved subsequently spending her life in prison.  I know she was stopped and I believe her story.  What the DA’s problem with her was I don’t know but she was sure railroaded.

The revolutionaries flooded into the hills above Fall Creek building concrete bunkers a la Manson that they stocked with food and weapons in preparation for the Day.  Strange robberies and shootings happened fairly frequently.  There were Manson cultists around for several years.  They may still be there, or here, actually, but I no longer have reason to be in contact with them.

Of course, Manson combined Heinlein with the various Satanic cults, the writer of the Spawn Of The Sphinx calls them UFO cults, to create his unique mixture.

Manson has taken the rap for what was going on but as I have indicated Polanski and a large part of Hollywood were as deeply connected to Satanism as he was.  Remember actually billions of tablets of prescription amphetamines and barbiturates were being sold annually in addition to the hundreds of millions of hits of illegal LSD, marijuana and God only knows what.  Frykowski was negotiating to become a large distributor of the amphetamine MDA.

Drugs were not solely a Hippie phenomenon; drugs were endemic.

Polanski, who can possibly be seen as a successful Manson, continued his nefarious career being arrested in 1977 on charges of child porn or statutory rape.  While it is said that the girl’s mother rented her out for the purpose the charge was still statutory rape.  Remember Manson said that the Tate-La Bianca victims were into kiddie porn.  Polanski believing he would be sentenced to hard time, possibly even being in the same prison as Manson, who knows, took it on the lam.  Today he is a fugitive from justice living in Europe where he has powerful protection.  Still makes movies though.

The Manson trial was docked in December being very much in the news at the time of Altamont, as was the Zodiac killer, so there was a certain atmosphere surrounding the concert.

The last half of ‘69 was in some ways the apex of Aryan consciousness while at the same time its nadir.  Even as powerful rockets were propelling a manned vehicle to land on the moon carrying an astronaut to leave a footprint three inches deep in the lunar dust the unconscious was burying the conscious mind on Earth.  A giant step forward for mankind on the moon while a two thousand year regression on Earth.

Almost simultaneously as the lunar module blasted down on the moon a half million of what used to be the hope for America’s future gathered in a muddy field in New York to show a level of culture not seen since the Anabaptists four hundred years ago.

While my generation celebrates Woodstock as the high point of Sixties culture I can see it only as an embarrassment.  Not wishing to go into detail I will only mention one thing.  Columbia Records released an album call Beautiful People, an ironic insult to the Woodstock Nation as Hippies called themselves in mockery of the Jetset beautiful people.  But, if you look at the album cover closely, in the upper lower quadrant you will see some guy standing up haveing sexual intercourse with a sheep.  Beastiality as well as NAMBLA maybe endorsed by some but damned if I’ll join in.

I know I’d never be forgiven for saying so but I consider Woodstock to be the penultimate nadir of the Sixties.  The nadir was, of course, Altamont, Satan’s triumph.

While the Rolling Stones, under whose auspices the event occurred refused to take responsibility for it, the Stones were as responsible as Levin, Polanski, the Process Church and Manson for the rise of Satanism.

The Manson trial was about to commence.  Manson to a large extent incorporated Rock into his philosophy although basing his notions more on the Beatles Double Album than the Stones.  Also bear in mind that Heinlein’s Stranger In A Strange Land was his bedrock.  One could only hope that he had been captivated by the bible of evildoers, The Catcher In The Rye.

The character of society changed greatly after 1968 almost like Nazi Germany.  Sixty-eight was the year of Mao’s Cultural Revolution, the horrors of which in China are still unlearnt in Europe and the US.  The Cultural Revolution was global.  Sixty-eight was the year of Mao’s Little Red Book and his red and gold portrait pins.  Sixty-eight was the year SDS exploded and the formation of the idiot Bomber Billy Ayers’ Weathermen organization as well as the Jewish Defense League, its offshoot The Jewish Defense Organization and the criminal activities of Rabbi Meyer Kahane.  Over the period of a couple years there were thousands of bombings in US cities.  So many that very few were ever publicized.

While the Tate-La Bianca killings dominated the headlines organizations like the Brotherhood of Eternal Love, the Black Panthers and numerous cults such as The Process Church were stirring up the folk.  One was practically dizzy.  In action at the same time as Manson the Zodiac killingts of the Bay Area where Altamont would be held were going on.  There was just way way too much for people to absorb or begin to understand.    As most people were busy trying to live their lives all this crazy activity had remarkably little effect.  It was just ‘news.’

Apropos of Altamont the Stones were relatively heavily involved in Sastanic matters, that, if I am right came to a head at Altamont.

Marianne Faithfull and Jagger had been familiar with Satanism before the Redlands bust.  Anita Pallenberg, formerly with Brian Jones and then Keith Richards, was deep into Satanism.  At one time she had Brian and herself dress in Nazi uniforms.  The Nazis were a fascination of the Process Church so rather than being an innocent lark she may have been showing the Church she was in a position to influence the Stones.  Indeed, they were in awe of her.

Through the art dealer and man about Hippiedom, Robert Fraser, Marianne and Jagger had met the arch American free lance Satanist Kenneth Anger, with whom they were deeply involved, and who was associated with the arech US Satanist, Anton La Vey.  La Vey would play Satan in Polanski’s Rosemary’s Baby.  That would imply that Polanski was involved in Satanism leading back to the Tate-La Bianca killings.

Post Redlands, Mick was thrown into a frenzy of hatred of society probably having thought he was a notch or two above the law immune to arrest.  Indeed he thought the enforcement of the law against him was a violation of his ‘freedom.’  Marianne had been a bit of an innocent, too naïve for her own good.  Mick now enraged turned to Satanism posing as Satan himself in his song Sympathy For The Devil of 1968.  He allowed the Stones to be featured in Jean Luc Godard’s bizarre revolutionary movie titled One+One subsequently changed to the title of Jagger’s song.  Marianne would let herself be exploited  in a couple of French films while becoming involved with the Process Church itself while starring in a Satanic film of Anger’s.

It is said now that Satanism was a minor flirtation on their parts but the indications are that the involvement was much deeper and more serious, especially on the part of Marianne that was reflected in her persona and activities in the first two years of her parting with Jagger.

It was perhaps the Process that alerted Marianne to the publication of a Soviet Satanic novel The Master And Margarita published in early 1968.  The novel has since attained a high cult status in the US and GB while becoming an industry in the former USSR.  A number of films of the novel have been produced in Europe.  A much overrated literary effort, in my opinion but a key Satanic document.

Marianne pressed Jagger to read the novel as he was about to begin production of Donald Cammel’s movie Performance, also a Satanic film, shot in the summer of ‘68, that revolutionary year.  The movie would not be released until 1971 so has no effect on the period.

Whether or not Jagger or Marianne took their Satanism as more than a hallucinogenic lark the effect of their Satanism on their fan base was intense.  Jagger was viewed as the Great Satan or, at least, a wannabe.

So the aura surrounding Altamont was imbued with Satanism.  Haight-Ashbury was Satanic.  Satanic was.

The Altamont was an almost perfect Satanic location.  The Altamont is a pass over the hills surrounding the East side of the San Francisco Bay, the East Bay.  To the North of the pass lies Contra Costa County; to the East is Stockton, Sacramento, Modesto,  and the Central Valley.  To the South are barren hillsides, desert for miles all the way to San Jose and beyond.

The pass is only a thousand feet but very windy while when the pacific fog comes in at night cold and dewy.  Today, they’ve covered the area with wind turbines, must be more spooky than ever at night.

When I was in the Navy in the late fifties I used to hitchhike back and forth from San Diego and Oakland every weekend.  I would have a friend  drop me off at the thousand foot level to begin the return trip.  Gloomy place but a quick place to pick up perhaps a very decent ride.  The demolition derby grounds were off on the right side going down, maybe at 900 feet.  Real desert.

So, through a series of misadventures, given only a couple days to set up this site straight out of hell, cold enough to freeze a witch’s tit the Stones held a free concert.  There was no parking, cars strung out along the side of Highway 40 for miles.

Everything was jerry built.  The stage was so low and surrounded by so many Hell’s Angels that few could even see the stage in the dark.  The sound was terrible.  Out into the darkness stretched a couple hundred thousand drugged shivering people.  I mean it gets cold and damp there any time of the year and this was December.

So, picture the symbolism.  The chief Droog, the Great Satan himself  is going to take the stage surrounded by Hell’s Angels and begin shouting out ‘Let me introduce myself…’  OK.  Hello, Satan.

Well, now.  Jagger and the Stones had been positioned as the bad boys of rock n’ roll by their first manager, Andrew Loog Oldham back in ‘64.  Their reputation kept getting worse and now they have improved this rep to being the house band of Hell, Satan’s own rock n’ rollers.  Huzzah!  ‘I’m a man of wealth and taste…’

There’s a Negro in a green suit who has pushed himself stage side, right behind the not so straight Satans, the Hell’s Angels.  I mean, these guys had a worse reputation in the Bay Area than Satan himself.  They used to have their club house just down the street from me.  We will never know the Negro’s motives but he does have something on his mind and he has a pistol in his pocket.  Are we looking for trouble, do you think?  He’s apparently been waiting for the moment Jagger opens his mouth to introduce himself.  Jagger begins belting it out and at that moment Meredith Hunter, for that is the Negro’s name, whips out his pistol.  Waving it in the air he begins a charge through the Hell’s Angels for the stage.  There’s a few Angels between himself and Mick who cut short Meredith’s pilgrim’s progress.

No one can say for certain that he didn’t want to put a bullet between the Great Satan’s eyes but I am positive his intent was not to take out six Hell’s Angels and then run like hell.  I’m not a gambling man but I would wager on that.

The Angels were cranked out on drugs, pot, LSD, crank or something while getting high on being tapped for the very important function of furnishing security for The Greatest Rock And Roll Band On The Entire Planet and, perhaps.- the Universe.

Wham!  Bang! Oh God!  Meredith today rests for all eternity on the Altamont or for however long it takes Time to wear down those hills to sea level.  If not Meredith, then his shade.

As Jagger made a dash for the helicopter somewhat reminiscent of the last evacuees from Saigon he was heard to mutter, ‘Something weird always happens when we play that song.  Could have a clue, Mick.  A Clockwork Orange wasn’t released for another couple years but that was the popular impression of you up on the screen, Mick.  Bad boy, bad boy, the bad boy of rock n’ roll.

Nor did Jagger abandon the persona after that disastrous experience.  He developed his ambi-sexual persona further appearing on stage as a sadistic agitator lashing the stage with his studded belt.   The Chief Droog.

Thus by the end of the sixties the suppression of the conscious rational mind had been accomplished  in favor of the vision of the unconscious as a satanic separate being whose external control of the individual  was irresistible.  Sex and drugs were used to place a generation beyond redemption.

In support of sex and drugs, TV and movies pounded out the message that rage and violence were the proper responses to one’s inability to realize one’s fantasies.

While some may pooh pooh the advancing Satanism of the Sixties and on to the present time TV and movies did advance the agenda into the present.  As incredible as it would have been to a person of the fifties when the mention of leg for lower limb was still frowned upon, copulation, not simulated even, but actual, is shown commonly on TV and in movies.  Murder as an occupation or even pastime has openly been promoted on TV shows such as Dexter that celebrates a serial killer and portrays him sympathetically, even as a hero to emulate.

In the series Breaking Bad a mild mannered high school chemistry teacher gets into manufacturing meth and slowly turn into a Death Dealer not unlike Stevenson’s Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.

The Dexter TV series is a very special case as it seem to have been designed around the philosophy of the Process Church and that of Manson.

Dexter develops around the career of serial killer, a Death Dealer in the Process term.  It is nothing less than  a series of snuff films recording many, many ritual killings.  The ritual theme is highly developed.  The ritualistic aspects are quite startling while many of the settings are quite Satanic.

The question of incest is raised as Dexter and his sister are quite close and as the series develops they become romantically in love.  Then Dexter involves Deb, the sister,  in his ritual killings.  This cause a moral conflict in her character against her love for her brother.  After an attempt to resolve the conflict by an attempted suicide and killing of Dexter by driving the car they are riding in off the road into a lake.  She is rescued by a convenient observer then goes back to save her brother.

Both are under the care of a female psychologist who his fully aware of Dexter’s career because she analyzed Dexter’s father who had trained his son but then committed suicide when Dexter’s avidity for the kill disappointed him.  The series is really astonishing.  The psychologist is then converted into an accomplice of Dexter.

In a touching scene reminiscent of the Egyptian statue of Isis beholding her son as the father stands behind her throne, one watches as the sister/wife psychologically accepts the role of serial killer, justifying it in her mind, very well acted, now Dexter’s full accomplice.  The psychologists nods her assent as Deb wonderingly says:  The family that kills together stays together.

Thus the whole philosophy for which Manson has spent his life in prison is legitimized for public emulation.  Charles Manson told his Family: You can’t kill kill.  And there on your television screen in an incredible reversal of morality in the short space of 60 years from 1960 to the present you have the rejection of God for Satan.  If in the Sixties only 2% of the population according to Scientology could be cold blooded killers the entire population of the United States, potentially,  has been indoctrinated and conditioned to kill.  It only remains for Dexter, his sister and their psychologist to become cannibals.

Thus, through the efforts of Time Magazine, Ira Levin, Roman Polanski, The Process Church and numerous other Satanic cults aided by the Sado-masochists of Hollywood Satanism has slowly displaced Godliness.  Satan has murdered Jesus.  The unconscious of Freud has displaced the conscious mind of the Aryan past.

The road to chaos has been paved.  Can the momentum be stopped?

Mourning Becomes Yoko Ono

The Passing Of John Lennon Part III

by

R.E. Prindle

Doppleganger #1

When John Lennon met Yoko Ono he knew very little of art and nothing of the New York art scene.  His high school years had been spent in open and futile rebellion; the next few years had been spent only in the German underworld with no time for cultivation.  From there he went into the whirl of the Beatles years so one might say he had been in cultural suspended animation for all his adult life.

Yoko Ono since 1960 had been engaged in the New York avant garde art scene.  She was au courant when she left for London in 1966.  Hooking up with Lennon she began to educate him according to her understanding of art.  By the time the Ono-Lennons arrived in New York in the late sixties that scene was dominated by the POP art of Andy Warhol while the world both she and Lennon knew in 1960 was unrecognizable.  Yoko wasted  no time in ingratiating herself with Andy but not the factory.  After he was shot in 1969 the old Factory disappeared and after his recovery Warhol began a new life.  It is possible that she tried to establish

Doppelganger #2

contact with him between ’64 and ’66.  She did know warhol’s associate, Sam Green, from her first days in the Village in 1960.

By the time of her return to NYC Yoko had achieved world wide fame by using Lennon and his fame  in their charades for ‘Peace.’  Now she had the perfect entree to enter Warhol’s circle.  Warhol was a sucker for celebrities, he did Lennon’s portrait, so he was flattered when Yoko asked him to introduce she and John into society.  If Warhol could pester, Yoko was unstoppable.  While Andy wasn’t exactly persona gratis at that time he was thick with Sam Adams Green who did have entree to society.  Between the the two of them they set up a party to introduce the Ono-Lennons.

John was, of course, no Mick Jagger.  While Mick adapted himself quickly to the demands of his fame and moved easily in society, John was awkward being out of the element of his self-styled working class hero.  Yoko, too, was no mixer so at the party Yoko and John sat silently in a corner as though in one of Yoko’s bags watching the party goers.

Warhol Jagger 2

Warhol Jagger

It might be apropos to point out that Jagger and Warhol were fairly close.  Jagger was one of the few people attending Warhol’s funeral in Pittsburgh while Bianca was in Warhol’s entourage in the eighties.  Warhol also painted a portfolio of Jagger pictures that today command healthy prices.

The Devil In Disguise

Witchy Woman and Warhol

Yoko still persisted with Warhol but Andy having been disappointed once was not up for it twice.  He distanced himself from the pair describing them to Sam Green as boring.  An ultimate putdown.

Initially the Lennons  lived in the Bohemian scene downtown.  Mickey Ruskin, the owner of Max’s Kansas City, described the Bohemian scene thusly:  the well-to-do Bohos, the middle and the lower class.  Those associated with the Kettle of Fish and its environs of which Dylan was a member were of the lower class while the Kettle of Fish itself was owned by the Mafia.  He believed Max’s was in the middle.  John and Yoko first lived in New York in the West Village at 105 Bank Street next door to Yoko’s her, John Cage.  They took over Joe Butler’s apartment, he formerly the drummer of Lovin’ Spoonful so Ruskin would have classed John and Yoko as haut ton beatniks.

At any rate they soon left those environs to migrate to the Upper West Side where they secured apartments in the famous, or soon to be famous, Dakota.  It was then that their NYC life took its definitive form.

I have been to NYC a few times so that I know the general layout and have some feel for the place but I have by no means an intimate knowledge so essentially I’m working from maps.  I know where MOMA and some few prominent art landmarks are from experience but not that many.

At any rate the Dakota is a famous landmark..  Acceptance as a tenant is by committee approval.  John and Yoko were strenuously vetted but finally admitted.  They took over actor Robert Ryan’s apartment #72.  If you have seen the movie Rosemary’s Baby the camera pans past apartments 71 and 72.  No filming was allowed inside the Dakota so while the exterior shots are authentic the interiors were shot on sets.  Thus the apartment of the Satanists is a fictional 7E.  The apartment next to it  in which the young couple resided may have been number 72.  The man of the couple who was an actor sold his wife’s body to Satan as the carrier of his child for success in the theatre which he was granted.  Thus the Ono-Lennons moved into an apartment closely associated with devil worship, the occult and witchcraft..  This will become more important as Yoko associated herself with all three.  In fact, Yoko through John Green would have been familiar with the Yoruban Santeria religion that she in all likelihood would have reverenced.  The Spirit Foundation that she established is concerned with the preservation of just such tribal institutions.

Dakota Entrance

These are magnificent apartments that I presume Rosemary’s Baby duplicates.   Huge fifty foot long living rooms as part of a ten room apartment.  The Ono-Lennons would soon own both 71 and 72 lacking only the fictional 7E  while having a Studio apartment as well.

Being now permanently settled Yoko having access to John’s superb income began to spend it.  Of course, she virtually cleaned out department stores on her buying binges, any girl’s dream.  But, she also began to buy heavily into art and antiques as investments.  This brought Warhol’s friend Sam Adams Green into a close association with her.  Rich society women were Sam’s forte.  He has an interesting story.  He was actually descended from the second president of the United States, Samuel Adams.  He arrived in New york in 1960 about the same time Andy Warhol was trying to establish himself as a fine artist and Yoko the same.  Warhol of course began as a commercial artist doing shoe ads but in 1960 he changed the emphasis of his career.

In the fine arts field one of the first gallery people Andy met was Sam Green of the Green Gallery.  Different Green, Sam only

The Dakota

worked there and shared the name.  He and Andy hit it off.  By 1965 Green was associated with the art department of UPennsylvania where he staged a Warhol exhibition in the same  year.  From there he gravitated bck to NYC where he began a career as art consultant to rich women on both continents.  They liked him.  Through the socialite Cecile Rothschild he was introduced to Greta Garbo with whom he was sort of a trusted companion for 15 years.

He was very knowledgeable about art as an investment traveling between Euorpe and the US advising socialites on the most investment worthy art.  He apparently derived a more than comfortable  income from his efforts.  He was a trusted advisor of Yoko.  Some say that he and Yoko’s Tarot reader, John Green, who would enter John and Yoko’s life at about this time, combined to bilk Yoko for overpriced objects.  This presumes that both men were dishonest and that Yoko was a fool.  As Yoko’s investments have prospered I think we can dismiss the latter, although Yoko did take pride in being able to spend vast sums.  She would have taken pleasure in overpaying.

Sam Green- Current

Rather I would say that Sam Green was a very knowledgeable expert whose task was to find art that would appreciate in value.  Thus the question is did he perform that function and the answer is, yes.  Yoko’s acquistions increased in value far above her purchase prices.  I think it is unfair then to say that the Greens bilked her.  Surely the laborer is worth his hire.

Warhol Portrait

Now, Sam Green as her agent had to buy the items he acquired for her.  Being knowledgeable as to who in society wanted to sell what at distressed prices he may have made some excellent buys that he then tacked on his margin which of course meant that he sold to Yoko for ‘more than they were worth.’  But, heck, even Christie’s and Sotheby’s take twenty per cent each from the buyer and seller.  That’s a forty per cent surcharge.  However Sam served his function of providing investment pieces  so I see no evidence of bilking.

Sam Green also formed a close, probably romantic, liaison with Yoko that persisted until after John’s death.  Another art dealser she became close to was a Sam Havadtoy with whom she subsequently lived for twenty years beginning immediately the day after John’s death.

Now the men Yoko associated herself with were all effetes, that were either emasculated when she found them or who she emasculated.  Strangely Lennon was the strongest of the lot.  Both her first Japanese husband and Tony Cox appear to have been heterosexuals but both Sam Green and Sam Havadtoy were dependent homosexuals.  With Havadtoy Yoko may have had her ideal relationship.  He was thoroughly emasculated while with the fortune Yoko  inherited from Lennon he was totally dependent on her.  The classic toy boy a couple decades younger than herself.  He, by the way, after his twenty year stint as live-in retired to Hungary with an abundant palimony but he isn’t talking.

In my reading of the situation then, a not particularly compliant John became somewhat of a liability to her, especially as he began to reassert himself with the return to the recording studio in 1980.  The problem has the surface appearance of separating the man form his money and discarding the man.

Yoko began building her entourage, Sam Green, John Green, Sam Havadtoy and her various occult people with what appears to be an admiration for and some sort of connection with Andy Warhol.  Sam Green and Havadtoy would be a troublesome presence in Lennon’s life during the recording of Double Fantasy while he does not appear to have been enchanted with the Warhol connection

As has been mentioned Yoko became involved in occult practices.  She did practice hypnotism on Lennon and was an adept at suggestion which is the essence of hypnotism.  Thus on the one hand she suggested forcefully to May Pang that she take up with Lennon while it is probable she hypnotized Lennon into taking up with May Pang.  Post hypnotic suggestion would give her a command over all Lennon’s actions.  Once implanted she would only have to say the word and Lennon would follow her suggestions.

How complicit John Green would have been in this isn’t exactly clear but any of Yoko’s suggestions to John could have been complemented by a reading.  John Green was after all dependent on Yoko for a very generous income beyond whatever he may have scammed.

John Green is another interesting case.  He was apparently successful as a Tarot reader before he met Yoko while he is reported to hae been a student of the African Yoruba religion called Santeria.  The Yoruba are a tribe in Nigeria, middle river, Western side.  He would have obtained much of the magic information he displayed in Cartagena, Columbia, SA from that source.  The sixties themselves  were the great period of the dissolution of the American mind and personality.  One of the key items in the disintegration was the 1962 movie, Mondo Cane. (It’s A Dog’s World).  It is difficult to assess the impact of this movie on the malleable college age mind of the times.

I saw the movie then and while it passed out of my conscious mind it struck me most forcibly and lodged in my subconscious mind.  I, of course, reviewed the movie for this essay and while I at first remembered little gradually my conscious mind recovered the images so that I remember almost all.  The viewing at the time was very repulsive and unsettling to my mind as it was for everyone I talked to about it and every college kid saw it.  Still, consciously I missed the true import of the movie completely.

The filmmakers equated some New Guinea stone age people with modern Whites and equated them- said both states of

Mondo Cane Poster

consciousness were the same-  and that there had been no advance between the primitive and modern.  Then they showed Whites at their goofiest and most ridiculous.  Drunks at a German Oktoberfest, aged tourists clumsily trying to do a hula.  The movie was a real exercise in moral relativity.  It was shortly after viewing the movie that I first remember hearing the phrase ‘Nothing is good or bad but thinking makes it so.’  I don’t want to philosophize on this but my thought was that  if I think something is bad therefore it must be because I think it and I can’t be wrong.

The movie had a devastating effect on the attitude of the generation.  It was a form of hypnosis with a great deal of post-hypnotic suggestion.  Whether John Green saw the movie or not I can’t say but if he had it would have prepared him for accepting Yoruban Santeria.   In fact these primitive forms of religion and what not flourished in the wake of Mondo Cane.  At the same, as I indicated, Yoko would have been very open to Santeria.  I think there is little doubt that Green and she at least discussed the religion and its African tribal origin.  Especially as she established something she calls the Spirit Foundation.  In the online prospectus she describes the foundation thusly:

The Spirit Foundation is…concerned with the protection and promotion of creative and cultural diversity amongst shamanic tribal communities worldwide.  Part of the foundations work is the International Shamanic Network which aims at promoting the ancient creative archetypes of man and their binding ecological realtionship to the world.

Our emphasis is on education for action.

As mentioned Yoko and Lennon moved into the suites used in Rosemary’s Baby with its Satanic overtones.  In the movie a young woman living with the Satanic couple either jumps or is pushed to her death not far from where Lennon was shot.  In this very location Yoko took up Satanism.  She decided she wanted to make a pact with the Devil to obtain her wishes.  The ubiquitous Sam Green knew of a witch who could serve as an intermediary between Yoko and Satan.  (Remember I am only retailing the story, I don’t believe Satan exists.)

Sam Green who had prospered as an art consultant had used some of his earnings to purchase what he called a castle in Cartagena, Colombia.  He recommended his witch to Yoko who asked John Green to take her to the witch as he doubled as Tarot reader and Wizard.  John Green did so and the witch duly negotiated a deal between Yoko and the Lord of Fire.  When it came time to sign the pact Yoko asked Green to do it for her which he did.  She was aghast when he told her he didn’t sign his name but hers.  Yoko trying to cheat the devil.

We don’t know what she asked Satan for but we are compelled to believe she got it.

Santeria Illustration

As I believe she hypnotized Lennon into taking the Long Weekend I don’t know exactly why she wanted him out of the house.  She certainly closely monitored his activities while he was away both in NYC and LA.  During his absence  Yoko didn’t have a Power of Attorney so she was somewhat constrained as John had her on a 300K budget.  When he returned she quickly obtained his POA so that she had unlimited use of his money and, in fact, his identity.

Lennon is criticized for being a recluse in the years between 1975-80.  He certainly wasn’t a recluse in that he withdrew from the world.  He merely limited his contacts with it.  It is said there was a fifteen month period when he was completely withdrawn.  While he was obviously suffering from a mental malise in my opinion the withdrawal was completely justified.  He had mental issues that had to be resolved.  He had the money and time to work at it as he did.

He had a mother/father fixation he had to resolve.  he had the feeling that he had been either a genius or a lunatic from boyhood.  In a remarkable rant within the 1970 Rolling Stone interview he rants for pages because no one recognized him as a genius in his youth while he had now convinced himself that he was and had been a genius.  The fact that he never did his schoolwork doesn’t  seem to him that that may have a reason why people missed his genius and though him somewhat mad.  What would theyhave done if they had?  So he had to reconcile the issue in his mind.

He seems to have made no advance past his school years except in music.  The years between leaving school and taking up with Yoko were completely wasted intellectually while the pressures of phenomenal success and wealth disoriented him completely not to mention the massive doses of drugs.  At some time then he had to come down and organize his mind and life.    From 1968 to let us say 1980 he was completely dependent on Yoko for his mental balance.  In NYC he went where she did and did what she did.  Hence the connection to Andy Warhol and Sam Green.

There are numerous pictures of Yoko, Lennon and Warhol.  Yoko even patterned some of her work after Warhol’s style as in the ‘work’ below patterned after Warhol’s double Elvis.  Thus she associates herself and Lennon with Presley.

Yoko Goes Warhol, Imitation of Double Elvis

As I mentioned before the social entree arranged by Warhol and Sam Green failed because of the social ineptness of the Ono-Lennons.

While we have a full record of what Lennon was doing during his ‘Lost Weekend’ we have a less full account of what Yoko was doing.  She seems to have had romantic liaisons with at least three men- Sam Green, Sam Havadtoy and the guitarist David Spinozza.

Sam Havadtoy

Perhaps she wanted to see how well she could do on her own as a musician, to see if her reputation as a performance artist and, in her mind, musician, was sufficient to maintain a career on her own without John.  If so, she was brutally disappointed as in her only solo performance she failed miserably.  Thus she realized that as of 1974 her reputation as well as her wealth depended on Lennon.

It was during Lennon’s absence that John Green came into her life.  While John Green tells a fairly smooth story in his Dakota Years one has the feeling that he is being highly selective in what he tells while he slyly ridicules the Ono-Lennons as their superior.  The attitude easily leads to contempt and from contempt to abuse.  Of course he would have to dissimulate both the contempt and abuse as Ono would be reading the book.  As I imagine, a priest in the Santeria religion, he would have been in the company of  some shady characters.  I don’t know how many actual Yorubas were in NYC but I have met a couple elsewhere.

One imagines most of the hierarchy Green came into contact with was African or American Blacks.  Santeria involves a deal of ritual sacrifice while money would be needed.  I suspect that John Green was involved in the extortion attempt on the Ono-Lennons.  This may have been Santeria related.  Thus a sort of Black Hand organization was created.  Rather than go for the big money that would have created a stir, the group settled for hitting up people with millions for a mere 200K each.  An unpleasant tax for being rich but one more conveniently paid than to die resisting.

We have only Green’s version of the extortion and his relationship to it.  He paints himself in a relatively good light.  The Ono-Lennons did call in the FBI, they did give the extortionists newspaper rather than cash as the FBI advised.  But then things went wrong.  The FBI apparently had only one tail on the extortionist who came for the money rather than a series of back ups.  The agent inexplicably lost his man.  The Ono-Lennons never received another call but they had been warned that if they failed to pay Lennon would be killed whether it took one, two or more years.  In December of 1980 the bill fell due.  On December 8th he was shot.  December 7th is Pearl Harbor Day so there may be a Japanese connection.  Yoko Ono being Japanese, her numerologist and the assassin’s wife while Chapman missed the appointed day by one.

The question then hangs on Mark David Chapman the shooter.  He is still alive and in prison.  He was an assassin as the classic lone nut like Lee Harvey Oswald and any number of assassins who pay the law for the crime while the organizers go free.  The technique has been well known to criminals for centuries.  Any time a lone nut assassinates someone you may be sure that they were a patsy as Oswald announced over TV he was.

It seems likely that Chapman had been hypnotized.  Witnesses said Chapman acted as though in a trance and he himself said he heard a voice in his head saying:  Do it. Do it. Do it.  The problem would be how he was recruited.  I, of course, can say nothing for certain  while what I am saying now is merely an hypothesis or inquiry.  The main thing is that Chapman was supposed to be a lone nut.  Ridiculous.

The most obvious recruitment method was the Santeria of which John Green was a member and to which Yoko Ono was

Mark Chapman

sympathetic.  There are some oddities in the Chapman story that have to be explained not least of which are the large sums of money expended by Chapman in relation to his income.  He was a married man therefore had a wife to support.  Yet in 1978 he was in Japan at the same time as the Ono-Lennons beginning an around the world flight.

Perhaps Tokyo was the first stop of the trip around the world that then led to Seoul, Hong Kong, Bangkok, Delhi, Israel, Geneva, Paris, London, Dublin, Atlanta and back to Hawaii.  His travel agent was a Japanese woman, Gloria Abe, who he then courted and married.  She is reported to have been involved in occult circles.  She may have seen so involved that, through Takahashi Yoshikawa, Yoko’s numerologist she was brought in to arrange the trip.  Such an around the world trip in a Westerly direction- sundown to sunup- according to Yoshikawa’s numerology would be characteristic of Yoko Ono.  She and Lennon made a round the world trip for occult reasons as did both Lennon individually and John Green at her instance.  Green made his trip in 59 1/2 hours only leaving a plane once to change to another.  As the financing of Chapman’s trip is unknown I would suggest Yoko Ono.

Two years after this very costly trip around the world Chapman flew from Hawaii to first Chicago, then Atlanta, then to New York where he landed a few days before the assassination.  Once again, well beyond his means.  It is said that he took paintings to Chicago that he sold.  Where he would have gotten the paintings isn’t known but once again Yoko is the obvious source.  She had an art gallery of valuable art work.

While in Atlanta he contacted a former roommate, then a Deputy Sheriff, Gene Scott, who gave him the hollow point exploding

Santeria Priestess

bullets for a handgun.  One assumes such bullets couldn’t be bought over the counter.  One wonders why Scott didn’t ask what Chapman intended to do with them.  And if he did and Chapman told him Gene Scott is clearly an accomplice and should be questioned.

Chapman himself came from Atlanta where in his teen years he was known to ingest any and all drugs.  Atlanta was also a Santeria center with several weird Black cults.  Lennon’s death took place at the same time as the Atlanta child murders for which Wayne Williams was later convicted.  The Santeria religion has been suspected in these obvious sacrificial murders while John Green establishes a Santeria connection to the Ono-Lennons and Yoko in particular.

Yoko was an excellent hypnotist who understood the use and power of suggestion.  The Santerists as Africans would be well versed in the use of suggestion and hypnotism.

Chapman said he was possessed by the Devil while appearing to be in a hypnotic trance.  All this rather amusingly is taking place at the Dakota, the scene of the Devil’s birth in Rosemary’s Baby.  Indeed, the identical apartment.

After Lennon’s death there was no period of mourning or sense of loss by Yoko.  All Lennon’s assets were in her control and name before his death.  The so-called will of Lennon is suspicious, although the will was unnecessary becaue I doubt if Lennon thought of a will while the will appointed the art dealer Sam Green as the gaurdian of son Sean in the event the Ono-Lennons perished together.  Lennon wasn’t that enamored of Sam Green.

Within a few days Sam Havadtoy was installed as Yoko’s live-in where  he remained for twenty years.

While Yoko’s success as an artist and rock n’ roller wasn’t affected by Lennon’s death she now had the money to pay to have her art exhibited.  Even then she found her reputation was indissolubly linked to her dead husband.  She has become a caretaker for the Lennon legend parceling out old recordings while humiliatingly Lennon’s artwork is more in demand than hers.

She seems to have patterned her later career on that of Andy Warhol who as he acquired fame and fortune managed to insinutate himself into certain society circles.  So has Yoko.  Now, at 78, she has attained a certain status although still extremely self-centered while having an appearance of terminal aloneness.

Dandelion: Memoir Of A Free Spirit

James

I looked at the sea and it seemed to say,

“I took your baby from you away.”

I heard a voice cryin’ in the deep,

Come join me baby in my endless sleep.

Ran in the water, heart full of fear,

There in the breakers I saw her near.

Reached for my darlin’, held her to me,

Stole her away from the angry sea.

Dandelion by Catherine James is an excellent read whether you consider it a memoir, a novel, or based on a true story.  As a memoir it is a little too sketchy, while as a novel it is a charming read with some effective, real touches of pathos.  The tenderly related death scenes of  her Grandmother and mother may not rank with the passing of Little Nell but they do choke you up a bit.

Dandelion was apparently written by Miss James unaided by a co-author.  When one considers that she had no schooling beyond the seventh grade this is a remarkable achievement.  In the explanation of her skill, apart from a native intelligence, at a rather advanced age she returned to Jr. College where she took a writing class apparently with good effect.  After a remarkable childhood and youth she is now entering an equally remarkable old age, uh, maturity.

Miss James had a childhood a bit out of the ordinary in its horridness, a crazy mother, and a succession of housing changes including a stint in a reformatory and a couple years in an orphanage.  My own childhood experiences parallel those of Miss James to some extent so I think I can write of her situation with some sympathy.

Miss james’ narrative is a coherent psychological whole progressing from beginning to end in an impressive manner, but I am only going to deal with the first half of her memoir.

I understand the following:  Catherine’s mother, Diana, was vain of her appearance while aspiring to a recording and performing career.  She did succeed in recording an LP titled Dian And The Greenbrier Boys.  I’m guessing that she had no intention of having children but as she married at seventeen on an impulse Catherine is probably a result of that impulse.

Diana probably then resented her daughter for inhibiting her ability to realize her ambitions.  She then took her frustrations out on her child.  She apparently developed a Hydelike personality in relation to her child.  Mad to the nth degree.  On her death bed she c0nfessed to Catherine that ‘the witches got her.’  One assumes then that Diana was what in the old days was known as being ‘possessed’ by the ‘witches’ when she was around her child.  In a manner of speaking she wasn’t responsible for her actions toward her daughter.  She was severely psychotic.

By all rights Miss James should have developed into a schizophrenic.  That she didn’t is the result of peculiarity of mind that I share.  Like Miss James I had some difficult years and like her I was able to maintain a separate identity in a world seemingly insane.

When Catherine’s mother divorced her father she was placed in a high class orphanage, call it a boarding school perhaps, for a period of time.  Understandably Catherine’s notion of time is hazily remembered at this period although she seems to have retained startlingly clear memories beginning from about the year two.  Catherine has no memory of an explanation being given to her for the removal to the boarding school.  It just happened one day.  She was inexplicably dropped off where she remained uncontested by any of her family until one day Grandmother Mimi picked her up from the home.  Catherine lived for perhaps two years with her grandparents without any communication from mother until for some reason her mother reclaimed her.  Perhaps because she had remarried.  The marriage flopped and after some time her mother took up with Travis Edmundson (deceased this year) of the Bud and Travis folk duo.  Her mother had aspirations to be a folksinger having, as mentioned, actually recorded an album as Dian And The Greenbrier Boys.  Dian was shortened from Diana.  More exotic.

According to Catherine Travis was as bizarre as her mother with the result that at the tender age of ten or eleven she left the house.  The police picked her up but she refused to give them any information.  Stangely they sent her to Los Padrinos Girl’s Reformatory in Downey, California.  She either was or believes she was committed until she was eighteen.  This seems extraordinary to me, although stranger things have happened I’m sure.  But to lock a very young girl up without charges, trial and sentencing for six or seven years boggles the mind.

With her child safely behind bars, Diana renounced her daughter making her a ward of the State.  Good God! Talk about cruel and inhuman.  One can’t be sure exactly what Catherine knew of what was going on but Diana and Travis refused to allow the girl to be released to her grandparents care.  Since her mother  had made the girl a ward of the State it isn’t clear what she would have had to say about it.  Her grandparents now sought to reclaim her but after legal maneuvers the best they could do for her was to get her released to an orphanage.  Orphanages are slight improvements over lockups.

Here Catherine becomes intentionally vague.  Her grandfather was named Al Newman and he wrote musical scores for the movies.  The only Al Newman who wrote for the movies I have been able to locate over the internet is Alfred Newman.  Alfred Newman wrote scores for about a hundred movies receiving an incredible amount of awards.  Catherine mentions that when she was staying with her grandparents a large number of Hollywood film people visited the home including Harpo and Chico Marx.  I would assume that she is coyly indicating that her grandparents were the Alfred Newmans.

If that’s so then her mother’s maiden name was Diana Newman and Randy Newman must therefore be Catherine’s cousin.  Now, she was placed in a country club Jewish orphanage.  Her grandfather Al Newman, she tells us, was a benefactor of the orphanage, so she assumes that is what got a Catholic girl into a Jewish orphanage.  If Al Newman was a benefactor then whether he was the famous Alfred Newman who was Jewish or not, Al Newman must have been Jewish.  In that case it shouldn’t have been that difficult to place her in the Jewish orphanage.  Even so, she says, she was not allowed to visit her grandparents on weekends.  An inexplicable lack of clout, but this is Catherine’s story.

She implies that efforts were made to convert her from Catholicism to Judaism which she stoutly resisted.  This all requires some clarification here.  She nevertheless learned Hebrew and could at the time recite some Jewish prayers in the language.  She was in the orphanage for about two years from eleven or twelve to fourteen.

Once agains this seems odd.  Things are done differently in different places no doubt but I also spent a couple years in the municipal orphanage which was much less posh than the place she describes.  She says they gave her good food; the food in our place was so execrable that I virtually didn’t eat for the two years.  She implies she had rather been in a Catholic orphanage but I do believe I can disabuse her of that notion.  An orphanage immediately declasses the inmates placing them outside society so that upon entry a child becomes a societal outcast.

In the municipal orphanage we were pretty free to come and ago as we chose provided we were back for dinner but even if  we hadn’t I’m not so sure anything would or could have been done about it.  We were a coed facility but the kids were moved out into foster homes at ten to avoid the inevitable sexual problems of old boys among younger girls and boys so I’m surprised Catherine was allowed to stay until she was fourteen.

I have a little experience with a Catholic orphanage.  There was one down the street from our place.   This place was a hell hole.  The municipal orphanage had a chain link fence around it but the Catholic place had a ten foot high brick wall.  The difference between that and Los Padrinos was non-existent.  Los Padrinos guards probably were more lenient than the nuns and priests.  The latter were not lovely people.  We used to be invited to the Catholic home for special occasions like Catholic movies and other events.  They used to show the Catholic kids what the world outside their institution looked like through the movies.  Like they say, no matter how bad off you are there are others worse off but of course that doesn’t improve your own situation.  I was very happy to return to the municipal home after visiting the Catholic home.  I think I ran all the way back.

Theirs was a rough life.  I’ll tell you a little story.

Catherine mentions that kids at the Jr. High she attended didn’t want to have anything to do with orphans.  True in spades all over the world.  We had this kid, all this happened to him in one year, who began the school year with the Catholics.  Those kids were schooled on premises, I’m not kidding you, they never saw the outside world, never.  His parents transferred him to the municipal home where he had to try to fit into the public school we were abused at.  Then he was transferred back to the Catholic home.  I was never so happy to see anyone leave as I was him.  He was already stark raving mad.  Then they transferred the kid back to the municipal home.  Barely holding unto to my own sanity the bastard was pushing me over the edge when fate intervened once again and he was sent back to the Catholic home.  I have no idea who or what he imagined he was by that time.  I had enough trouble surviving in the public school without switching back and forth.  Of course, with the right attitude it would have been a real learning experience but I hadn’t learned to dissociate like that yet.  I lived in total fear he would return.

A couple years later after my mother remarried and we moved into a garage I was reading the paper where I read that this kid, having returned to his parents from the Catholic home, locked all the doors of the house one night and torched it incinerating parents, siblings and himself.  I was shocked when I recognized who they were writing about.  I understood the situation expliclitly.  I had to keep my mouth shut of course but I lustily cheered what he had done although I certainly would not have burned myself up.  What could they do to you that already hadn’t been done?  It would just be a move from one institution to another.  I’m sure this kid was thought of as the ‘monster.’  Nobody knew the trouble he’d seen, man’s inhumanity to man.  Well, we all have our crosses to bear.

He was an extreme case but not that far gone compared to the rest of us.  Getting to my point with Catherine.  The boys in the orphanage tended toward violent reactions, rebillion as it was amusingly called.  I would imagine most of them became criminals of one stripe or another.  The girls on the other hand responded to their emotional neglect by offering themselves to anyone who would give them seemingly tender attention.  And there were a lot of them waiting to do that.  The fence of the orphanage was lined with perverts hitting on their preference- either boys or girls eight to ten years old.  Cops said there was no way they could run them off.  Free country.  Whoever said this wasn’t a great country, right?

So, at puberty, Miss James fled the orphanage, unchaperoned, into the great wide world with an instiable desire to be loved and somehow regain her social status as provided by the Al Newmans.  She fled into a world of rock ‘n roll where unlimited opportunites with guitar ‘gods’ existed.  This was a unique historical opportunity to realize her desires.  A couple years earlier…?

The story she tells must be a severely edited and corrected version of the reality.  One wonders what really happened.

Let me explain the genesis of this review.  I wrote a review of Miss Pamela’s ‘Let’s Spend The Night Together’ in which I was critical of Miss James’ claim that she met Bob Dylan while in an orphanage.  She appended a comment to the review suggesting I reread Miss Pamela and then read her own book- Dandelion.  As she said, she doesn’t make things up.  All right.  I did both.  As I say, I am sympathetic to any former alumnus of Orphanage U. but you don’t want to drift too far off the band in your reminiscing; that way lies madness.  Who wants to burn their own house down except for the irretrievably damaged- destroyed.

Miss James’ book of adventures is very tightly edited to produce a certain effect or opinion of the author while not all her memories check out.  Not terribly unusual in itself but she tries very hard to convince you that she is absolutely truthful and accurate.  I will say I’m getting a heck of an education checking her stories out though.  As they fit in with my agenda I have no problem with that.  The extension of my folk knowledge through the investigation of Bud and Travis has been very beneficial.

Miss James career was essentially from 1965 (possibly very late ’64) to 1970.  That’s five years more or less.  She managed to live two or three lifetimes in those years.  Ah, the sixties, weren’t those the times though?

Her mother’s agent who was hot after a ten, eleven or twelve year old Catherine was named Jim Dickson (Catherine says some names have been changed so…but then there was a Jim Dickson, talent scout and producer who helped work up the Byrds around LA at that time.)   He was working with the Byrds in ’63-’64 and he had something to do with Dylan according to Miss James.  The orphanage would barely allow Al Newman, a large benefactor of the home to visit his grand-daughter and yet they allowed an adult unrelated male to pick a 13 year old girl up and drive away with her.  Well, OK, if Catherine says so…

Dickson then took her to a Dylan concert.  Dylan was in LA in May and/or June of  ’63 for a short time according to biographer, Sounes, and again in ’64.  In ’63 Catherine, who certainly must have looked young, if Dickson hadn’t told Dylan that she was 13, says that Dylan asked her to a party where he spent, she says, several hours sitting talking to her while ignoring the big girls and execs.  Well, I don’t know, but I doubt it.  I can’t imagine how Dickson explained things to the orphanage when he brought Catherine back in the wee small hours of the morning.

Dylan was interested in her, she says, to the extent that every time he came to town he called on her at the orphanage.  These were in addition to the ’63 and ’64 visits so it is difficult to account for them.  Hard to believe, but as we’ll see she says all these famous rock musicians beat a path to her door, she didn’t pursue them.

Al Newman’s influence with the orphanage notwithstanding his large contributions was pretty limited so that he would have been unable to prevent Catherine being sent back to the reformatory which was then proposed.  One night she scooted out the back door to take her chances.  Brave girl; I shudder to think of it.

She says she took two hours to hoof it down to the Troubadour Folk Club at the junction of Melrose and Santa Monica.  Doug Weston founded the club in ’57 and this was early ’64.  Catherine is usually shy about identifying the seasons so one can’t pinpoint time within any given year.  She says because her step-father Travis of Bud and Travis was a performer there she was also allowed to perform at the troubadour as a twelve or thirteen year old.  Seems like a trifle of a stretch; she gives us no idea of her repertoire, Mary Had A Little Lamb or whatever.

In two short hours the orphanage had missed her presence, not very likely in my experience, divined that she was headed for the Troubadour, called the plice who were already on the spot passing her picture around:  Seen this here thirteen year old around here, anywheres?  OK.  Sure, why wouldn’t the cops have her photo already on file? Handy.

Rather than turning tail she slips into the club ascending the balcony to the right rear seat that just happened to be the only seat left.  I didn’t get to the Troubadour until the early seventies.  Saw Pentangle there.  I din’t go back.  The club was already on the way to becoming the rough place it became.  Anyway I know where she’s talking about.

This girl cannot possibly have looked, spoken or acted any older than she was.  She tells the guy next to her to pretend he knows her.  She later describes this guy to be in his early twenties although he was only nineteen.  He obligingly wraps his arm around a 13 year old.  Alright!  That’s a chance I wouldn’t have taken.  Probably worth twenty to life in California and we had been terrorized at the prospect of statutory rape.   That was when you looked cross eyed at underage which was against the statutes.

Catherine tells him all those cops swarming the place are after her.  Can he get her out of there?  Nothing daunted by anything like a statutory rape charge he throws his jacket over her shoulders and he and 13 year old  Catherine stroll out right under the noses of the coppers.  I think I saw that movie.

The Good Sam turns out to be the brother of John Stewart of the Kingson Trio, Michael.  In 1964 he was up at San Francisco State where he was forming the We Five but at the time he hadn’t.  You Were On My Mind was a year in the future.  He first drops her off at a house with a whole bunch of guys way back in the hills but she was not afraid.  Michael then drives her North to Mill Valley, remember those statutory rape laws if caught, and brother John’s house where she is taken in as a nanny, and California’s Most Wanted Child, for his kids.  The Stewarts want to adopt her which is her cue to split.  It is amazing how lovable this troubled child is.

As I say, I’ve been researching these astounding stories.  The problem with this one is that John Stewart was single at the time not marrying until 1968 when he wed Buffy Ford.  This story is definitely on the shaky side so that affects Catherine’s credibility a little more than somewhat.

Traveling to Berkeley with some ‘hippie’ kids she hit the high spot of fabled Telegraph Avenue.  Hippy kids seem a stretcher in ’64.  Now, we’re on home ground though.  I was around Berkeley a bit from ’64-’66.  she appears to be describing a later edition of Telegraph.  In ’64 the street was in transition from trad collegiate to what it later became.  It was the first time I  had ever been panhandled.  Some girl wanted 3.98 to get her dog out of the vet.  Could have been Catherine for all I know.  Naw, this girl was well past 13.

On Telegraph she chances into the son of Barbara Dane and Rolf Cahn.  Cahn, a guitarist, is living up at Inverness on the ocean side of Marin County.  The younger Cahn puts her up at a sorority, which might seem plausible unless you’ve met some of those stuck ups.  To get her over to Inverness he invents the story that the police are passing pictures around.  Well, they couldn’t find Patty Hearst a couple years later either.  Not to worry, his bed in Inverness awaits.  Just one look was all it too, having his fill of her he splits the next morning with no intention of returning.  His dad also splits leaving her alone in the house.  A different world than I grew up in, no offense.  These things can happen, I don’t say they don’t, but ten or fifteen in a row is worthy of Guiness.

The next day this guy from Boston shows up looking for Rolf, he’s a music lover.  Likes the stuff, flew out from Boston to listen to Rolf for an afternoon.  He is vastly amused at this endlessly charming 13 year old offering to fly her back to Boston with him which offer she accepts.

Once in Boston she’s hot to get to NYC so someone going that way offers to drive her down to the East Village while Dr. Cummins, for that was his name, gives her a twenty for bus fare back.  Am I going too fast?  Catherine tells a fast paced story.

Now, in NYC where Dylan mostly hangs out she has to locate this lad who found her so charming in California.  We’ve moved up from ’63 to very late ’64 or early ’65 so Bob is heading into the thick of his ’64-’66 epiphany.  Thanks to Peter Paul and Mary he is now – Somebody.  Things are rollin’ for Bob.

At this point Catherine tells two different stories.  In her memoir she calls Woodstock where she says a woman answers and informs her that Dylan has gone on tour.  In Miss Pamela’s book she says she asked some kids where to find Bob Dylan.  Dylan obligingly pulls to a stop in front of her, slow moving traffic.  She runs over to say hi.  Dylan rolls down the window, coldly says he’s on his way to a concert, driving off.  She made no further attempt to contact him and he would have been easy to find.

Alright, I read and reread.  What am I supposed to believe?

So, this is 1965, the next five years are truly spectacular.  Unlike any other groupie I’ve ever heard of the rock stars gravitated toward the now fifteen year old Miss James with no effort on her part.  She doesn’t have to shriek for their attention or bare her boobs, she’s stunning and they come running.  Here she makes another minor error.  She says she sees Morrison and The Doors performing Light My Fire in NYC.  A couple of years ahead of the facts.  A small error doesn’t mean much but what about the rest.

From this point on in order to create an impression of herself Catherine severely edits the facts distorting the reality at the least, what one puts in, what one leaves out.

In ’65 she met Denny Laine, make-up naturally fooled him, although still young she is now 15.  Close but still statutory.  I’m surprised the Moodies were in the US in ’65 because Go Now, their first hit, didn’t make that big an impression.  Still, on their website the Moodies describe themselves as part of the British Invasion.  In my experience they didn’t hit until ’68.

James 2

The two met more or less formally at a party so the meeting was formalized rather than a groupie-star existential encounter.  Catherine always wishes to create a meeting Southern Belle style where the stars are impressed by her as much as she is by them.  “Oh, Rhett, you don’t mean it?’

Laine forms the central theme of her groupie years.  She has a child by him which carries her into seventeen and 1967.  It isn’t easy creating a time frame or setting for her cast of characters.  During the three years 1967-1970 she has relations of some sort with the following  without mentioning Bob Dylan who dropped off the radar in 1965.

Roger Daltrey

David Gilmour

John Mayall

Jimmy Webb

Roman Polanski

Jimi Hendrix

Jimmy Page

Eric Clapton

Jackson Browne

Ginger Baker

Mick Jagger

Geno, partner in Granny Takes A Trip

+ Denny Laine

As you can see it is a regular A list.  George Harrison could be included but she had no relations with him, just a friend.

Catherine doesn’t mention Geno or David Gilmour herself.  Miss Pamela provides that in Spend The Night.  The gig with Geno and Miss Pamela also took a couple months.  Miss Pamela came to England with Geno’s partner.  The four then took up residence together all sleeping in the same bed with baby Damian in a crib in the corner.  He must have a Freudian memory or two.

Catherine artfully tells her groupie career bringing the story to a grand climax before she throws in the towel and tries to establish a life as a respectable hausfrau.  The apex of groupiedom was Mick Jagger.  A story made the rounds at the time of a groupie who finally made it to the bed of Mick.  When asked how he was the next day, her reply was:  Well, he was OK, but he was no Mick Jagger.

Catherine characteristically was wooed by Mick, herself doing no chasing.  She was staying at Eric Clapton’s when Mick came over for a party.  Catherine tells it this way:

I remember being engrossed in a book in the study when he peeked in and said:  “You’re pretty.”  With a blush, all I could think to say was a faint “thank you”, and went back to reading my book.

Just like a debutante Catherine was engrossed in her book.  As the party got into swing and as the mescaline punch was about to hit Catherine thought to call Denny Laine while still coherent.

As I was speaking with Denny, Mick came into the room and closed the door behind him.  I was seated at the desk in a regal, antique high-back chair with ornate carved arms.  Mick walked up next to me and just stood there.  He was wearing these delicious black-and-white checkered houndstooth wool trousers with a soft cotton white shirt.  When I looked over, all I could see was the undulating moving pattern of the houndstooth.  Mick didn’t say a word, but I felt the electricity.  He was clearly waiting for me to get off the phone.

I think that’s pretty effective writing for a girl who barely finished grade school.  Obviously she put her time to good use after giving up the life.  Just picture sweet Lady Catherine sitting there as her Prince Charming came into her life, ‘regal, antique, high backed chair with ornate carved arms!’

The above passage is for the girls who never made it with Jagger.  You can just hear Miss James cooing: Eat your hearts out girls.

Catherine not only has one night with Mick but moves into the mansion for ‘a couple of months’.  The absolute untopable climax comes next.

For the event I wore my long, whimsical, gypsy dress from the posh Ozzie Clark’s boutique.  The velvet bodice was formfitting, buttoning down to a billowing skirt of colored silk layers.  My pale pink platform boots with appliqued silver cresent moons and stars from Granny Takes A Trip went perfectly with my outfit.  Stevie Wonder was the hottest ticket in town, and I felt like a female divinity sitting between Mick and Eric, taking in Mr. Wonder’s stellar performance.

Yes, there was the fairy princess sitting with not one but two Prince Charmings watching Stevie Wonder.  There was no way to top that so apparently Catherine’s philosophy was quit while you’re on top.  I quite agree with her if you know when that is.  And thus perhaps after having gratified one compensatory fantasy she returned to the US to begin her redemption by hard work.  As she has written this book she apparently did that too.

After knowing all those rock gods so intimately I think it noteworthy that only Roger Daltrey deigned to write a blurb for the jacket.  He and Miss Pamela.

The book was a very interesting read leading me to some other interesting discoveries that added substance to my understanding of the era.  I have Miss James to thank for that.

As an alumnus of the orphanage, and believe me orphanages are all one form of horror story or another, I have solidarity with Miss James and wish her well.  I’m sure everything she wrote was based on the facts but I still want some corroboration for the Dylan bit.

Miss James’ book has enjoyed some success.  My copy is of the second printing so she sold out the first.  At the last check the title was listed as about the 100,000th best seller on Amazon.  I’m not sneering, mine is at about 5,500,000.

If anyone likes horror stories of this nature may I direct them to my description of  an orphanage- Far Gresham Vol. I- that can be found at reprindle.wordpress.com.  May I also direct your attention to my The Sonderman Constellation by R.E. Prindle published by iUniverse available through alibris, Amazon etc.  I need some readers and sales too.  I probably don’t need more than two sales to jump up to the 1,000.000th best selling.  C’mon help a fellow out   It’s a good book, you won’t regret it.

7/27/12 Update.

The Book

Here is corroboration for Catherine’s liaison with Mick Jagger.  The following quote can be found on pp. 223-4 of the Tony Sanchez/John Blake memoir Up And Down With The Rolling Stones, 1979, John Blake Publishing (6.95) originally published as I Was Keith Richard’s Drug Dealer.  Reprint 2010.

While I have no reason to doubt Catherine, corroboration is always a good thing.  This corroborates both Mick and Eric Clapton. Quote:

Then along came Catherine.  She was an exotic-looking Californian who’d enjoyed a brief affair with Eric Clapton.  Eric introduced her to Mick at a party, and a couple hours later Catherine was tucked in Mick’s huge three-hundred-year-old bed in Cheyne Walk.  The two of them stayed in bed for the next twenty-four hours, and after that, Catherine moved her things in.

Jan was piqued.  She seemed to have fallen in love with Mick.  Next to him other men lacked imagination and energy.  I had seen other girls, even tough little groupies, entranced in much the same way, Jagger’s feminine qualities seem to give him an unusual insight into women, and he uses that insight to give him total power over them.  But Jan said nothing- to do so whould be un-cool, and Mick hated uncoolness in women.  Besides, she was a paid employee- no strings attached.

The friction between Jan and Catherine sent sparks flying almost every day.  Jan hated Catherine because she had won Jagger’s body.  Catherine hated Jan because she seemed to have captiviated Jagger’s mind.  The situation was untenable, and when Mick was out, the girls would have bitter, screaming arguments.  In his presence they attempted to feign sycophantic devotion.  For Mick it was a perfect set-up.  He had all the sex and company he wanted without involvement.  Neither girl was secure enough to dare complain….

Mick loved to set them against each other until they were at the screaming point.  It was as if he had become the person he pretended to be on stage, he needed his fans fighting over him, even in his living room.  He was so egocentric now that he couldn’t love anyone except himself.  He was emulating mad, debauched , oversexed Turner, the character he had played in Performance.  With Marianne gone, Mick’s last link to earth was severed and his image swallowed him up.  Michael Philip Jagger had ceased to exist.  Now there was only Mick Jagger, Superstar, twenty-four hours a day.

The farce at Cheyne Walk couldn’t drag on forever.  Mick’s cosy menage a trois came to a stormy close when he announced in August that the Stones were off  on a tour of Europe and that Catherine would not be coming.  “Sorry, darling.”  he told her.  “It’s a band rule, always has been, I don’t take my old lady on the road.”

…Catherine wept for days.  She knew it was over.  Jagger wanted her out of the house by the time he returned from the tour.  All her dreams of being the next Marianne Faithfull were flying out the window.  When the final explosion came she lashed out at Jagger, kicking, spitting, scratching and trying to tear his hair out by the roots.  It was, of course, a very uncool thing to do.  Catherine left quietly that night.

A slightly different version than Catherine’s which was ultra-cool.

By the way, disregard any negative criticism of this book.  It is authentic.  Sanchez was inside and his co-author, John Blake, was a very well informed, intelligent journalist from an outside perspective.  Essential for Stones’ fans.

Update 8/11/12

Another version of Catherine’s stay with Mick comes from Christoper Andersen’s Mick, Gallery Books, 2012.  Anderson does not give his sources.

(Mick) preferring instead to amuse himself by rotating among the members of his floating harem.  Among them:  Janice Kenner, a stunning blonde from LA, ostensibly hired to be a housekeeper cook and “personal assistant”; New Yorker Patti D’Arbanville, a nineteen-year-old model and actress; another leggy California, Catherine James and Brian’s ex-girlfriend Suki Poitier.

Even for these women, there were limits when it came to sharing Mick.  When one girl came upon Catherine James in bed with Mick at Stargroves, he merely suggested a menage a trois.  James, furious, stormed out.  After hastily making love to the interloper, Jagger spent the rest of the evening trying to talk James out of catching the next flight home.  He succeeded, but it wasn’t long before James decided she “definitely wasn’t the right girlfriend for Mick.  “Eventually I would have killed him in his sleep.  I’ve a jealous nature.”

A different version than that of either Catherine or Sanchez.  Anderson goes on to provide corroboration for Catherine’s account in which she called Mick after Bianca moved in.  This paragraph refers to the account of Miss Pamela but is nevertheless confirmatory:

Now ensconced with Mick at Stargroves, Bianca began cleaning house.  One by one, she ordered the other women in Mick’s life to stay away from her man.  When Miss Pamela called, she was surprised when a husky voiced woman answered the phone.  “You are never, ever, under any circumstances to call Mick, ever again.”  Bianca said.  “Get the picture.”

So, we acquire richly varied accounts of Catherine and Mick.

Update 9/13/12

Ronnie Wood, Ronnie, 2007, St. Martin’s Press.  This from Ronnie Wood page 69:

On the subject of women, on another Beck tour I fell for Kathy James, who is famous in rock and roll mythology because she was the original groupie.  And absolutely gorgeous woman, believe me, she had a special feel for special musicians.

Update 10/4/12

Philip Norman: Mick Jagger,  Harper Collins, 2012  pp, 402, 405

For a time, just like Performance’s Turner, he had two live-in female companions, albeit in this case both Californian rather than French and polyglot Danish.  The first to be installed, a bubble-haired blonde named Janice Kenner, had found herself alone with Mick in the back of his car and received a well-tried Jagger line:  “Do you like waking up in the city or the country?”  Replying “the country,” she had been spirited away to Stargroves, there acquitting herself well enough to be asked to wake up in the city with him as well.  Soon afterward, he also brought home Catherine James, a solemn-looking twenty-two-year-old who had taken the same roundabout car ride via Berkshire.  The two coexisted in Cheyne Walk without rancor, each fixing on a distinct role for herself”  Catherine was Mick’s girlfriend while Janice was his cook, but available for the occasional “romp.”  In fact, their easy relationship rather irked Mick, who preferred the women around him to be at loggerheads for his attention.  One day, to their bemusement, he got them to plaster each other with strawberries and whipped cream like a polite English garden-party version of mud wrestling.

As further proof of his rather lonely state, he also asked “Miss Pamela” on the tour (she decided to return to her boyfriend, however) and took along one of Cheyne Walk’s two resident houris, his “cook” Janice Kenner.  The other, Catherine James, was dismissed as she lay in bed, with a farewell kiss and instructions to lock up the house before returning home to California.

Update 1/22/13

From Scaduto, Tony: Mick Jagger, Everybody’s Lucifer, David McKay Company, Inc., 1974. pp. 348, 349, 350.

Eventually, however, Catherine came along- introduced to Jagger by Eric Clapton- and she moved in, a replacement for Marianne in a way. Catherine is a Californian, outstandingly beautiful, but Janice didn’t think she was especially sophisticated. Catherine is a super-groupie, the elite of the groupies: Instead of flying on her own to meet a superstar, the superstars send her plane tickets so she won’t forget to come to them. Jagger impressed on Catherine the fact that she was living in a grand house, had a lot of money to spend on it, and must learn to be a real English lady, Janice recalls. But Catherine seemed to have no idea how to be a lady: she took to flickering her cigarette ashes on the floor because there was someone around to clean them up, Janice felt. Catherine appeared to be trying to play the role Jagger was forcing on her, telling Janice it was all so romantic to be Mick Jagger’s lady and how madly in love she was with him. And Janice thought: Mick’s not in love with you, he’s just interested in fucking you and having a good time. He’s fucking around with your head, and you’re going to be terribly hurt when you wake up. Jagger’s games made Janice angry, and she tried to warn Catherine about it, gently. Catherine refused to permit reality to get in the way of romantic dreams, Janice felt, and the two women started getting into arguments over it. Janice later said: “Mick knew it and loved it. he played it up and instigated arguments between us. I remember thinking: “The guy is fantasizing that we’re fighting over him.”

The Stones were going off on tour again- a month in Europe through September and part of October. Catherine appeared furious because she was being left behind, and even Janice was being taken along, a last minute assignment to help Anita take care of her baby because Shirley Arnold had sprained her ankle and couldn’t go. They were up in Jagger’s bedroom, packing his clothes for the tour. Catherine sat on the bed crying that she was being left behind, and Jagger seemed to be feeling sorry for her. He leaned over and stroked her hair very lightly. “Let’s go downstairs to the other bedroom,” he said. Turning to Janice: “Finish packing this shit.” They left the room, and Janice sat on the bed, lit up a huge joint, and thought: He’s giving her a farewell fuck. She sat there a long while, smoking, getting too stoned to finish packing. And she thought: I’m really glad he took her downstairs because it’ll make her feel a lot better; she’s done nothing but cry for days.

Suddenly, Jagger came rushing back into the bedroom, shouting: “I don’t understand her,” followed by a tall, willowy and very exotic woman, a friend who had dropped in to visit. She also shouts: “I don’t understand.” Catherine rushes in, screaming: “I hate you, I hate you.” And Janice, stoned, sits there thinking: It’s like a fucking movie comedy. When everyone quiets down, and the woman goes home, and Jagger leaves the room for moment, Catherine explains what the commotion was all about:

“We’re in bed, fucking.” she tells Janice, when in walks this bitch and makes some remark, and Mick invites her to get in bed with us. I guess I just got hysterical and I started screaming and kicking Mick and scratching. My last night in bed with Mick, and he wants another chick to join us.”

Update 3/29/13

Hodkinson, Mark: Marianne Faithfull, As Tears Go By, 1991, Omnibus Press

p. 136

On his visits to England, Jagger began sleeping with a succession of girls, and Stargroves, the grandiose emblem for Jagger and Marianne’s love, became the setting of his numerous one night stands. He had a longer romance with Suki Potier, a former girlfriend of Brian Jones, and spent several weeks in the company of a Californian girl called Catherine James.

Update 4/21/14

Eric Clapton:  The Autobiography, 2007, Broadway Books

On the first day, while I was sitting in the theater during rehearsals, watching the various acts do their turn, a very beautiful blond girl came and sat next to me.  We struck up a conversation, and at some point she asked if I would like to stay with her while I was in town.  She was gorgeous, and seeming to sense my shyness with women, did her best to put me at ease.  Her name was Kathy, and she took care of me the whole time I was in New York.

She had her own apartment, and I moved in with her.  She showed me around, taking me to the various places where I could tick off the list of things I wanted to experience.  I remember her taking me to various coffee bars in the Village, and we went to one or two music stores, like Manny’s on Forty-eight Street  She also took me to a big saddler’s called Kaufman’s which sold western gear, where I bought my first cowboy boots, and with this beautiful girl on my arm, I thought I had died and gone to heaven.
