I read that Bob Dylan is accused of statutory rape…back in 1965. While I fail to take the sixty-eight year old woman’s claim seriously I have no doubt Bob acted cavalierly with women at all times. At that time in 1965 Bob was courting a Playboy Bunny named Sara Lownds who he married in November of 1965; he was having an affair with Suze Rotolo that began in 1961, he was keeping Joan Baez at bay and more importantly and shamefully he was persecuting a young heiress named Edie Sedgwick.
Edie was a celebrity personality at the time. Bob was in competition with another celebrity, Andy Warhol, for Edie’s favor. And as usual Bob put his personal affairs into song: Like A Rolling Stone and Positively Fourth Street. But as to his accusers complaint: She claims she was sexually and mentally abused by him in April-May for six weeks. If this in the case her memory misremembers the dates. April is completely out as Bob was in England at the time however May/June is open.
A Dylan sycophant named Clinton Heylin in England who has written numerous books and biographies while living his life as a shadow Bob, has offered his services as an expert witness if the suit goes to trial. He is willing to testify that Bob wasn’t even in New York for six continuous weeks in 1965. Oh my, and this guy considers himself an expert on Bob’s life and whereabouts. Let’s look at the facts.
Bob met Edie in December of 1964. She stunned him so terrifically that he apparently forgot wife to be Sara Lownds to pursue Edie. He came on strong, very strong, seemed to be doing well, but in January 1965 business called him away. He extracted promises from Edie to remember him.
Subsequently in January Edie met Andy Warhol, who was a bigger celebrity than Bob at the time. Here the feud between Bob and Andy begins. Andy made Edie what she considered an attractive offer to be in his silly movies. Edie snapped at the bait. Remember that Bob thought he had a prior claim on her affections.
Several months later, May of ’65, Bob returned, it isn’t recorded that he went to see his betrothed Sara first, but he was astonished that Edie had defected for Andy. Bob went ballistic. In June he confronted Edie at one of Andy’s parties. They went off into a corner to discuss matters. Edie explained the movie thing. Bob told her that he was going to make movies too leaving her to understand that she would be his co-star. Oh, Bob. Edie refused to budge as she was already connected to Andy.
Bob became half crazed. He charged home trembling in every limb, grabbed a pen and in near frenzy filled several sheets of paper vomiting out lines for something called Like A Rolling Stone all about what a bitch Edie was. I used to have this written in great detail on a post in my blog: Exhuming Bob 23a, Bob and Edie. Someone has broken into my post and obliterated the contents. I don’t know who would have done this except Bob. Not nice Bob. That was my copyrighted intellectual property not unlike your songs. You may be liable. That wasn’t nice at all. Sort of like you treated Edie.
Andy and Edie then had the summer of their lives filling the pages of Time and Life magazines while Bob fumed. Tidying up his lyrics he blasted them across the airwaves. Andy and Edie may have been the only people who got it as the lyrics were so disguised l can assure that none of us on the other side of the radio got it. Then Bob sat back down and penned a blast at Andy titled Positively Fourt Street. More mysterious lyrics as a screed directed at Andy.
Bob would not leave Edie alone. Pestering about the movie he had in mind, but failing to deliver so Edie was caught between two posts. Then in November while Edie was begging him to make the movie deal and possibly marry her, who knows, Bob let the bomb drop that he was already married to his Bunny.
Bob wrote another couple vicious songs about her then passed her to his sidekick Bobby Neuwirth. Edie’s fate after Bobby is too painful to relate.
Bob then was in town for most of ’65 contrary to Clinton Heylin’s expert testimony. I have to discount Bob’s accuser until definite facts emerge. As this woman claims that she apparently resisted Bob’s blandishments until he ‘groomed’ her with alcohol and drugs plus physical abuse I find that difficult to believe; I don’t think Bob would have had to use booze and drugs. This was Greenwich Village in the Hippie days in NYC for Chrissakes. The free sex capital of the world. Every weekend hundreds, thousands, of girls flooded into Washington Square looking for action. I doubt there was a single musician lacking as much sex as he wanted.
And Bob, you shouldn’t have messed with my intellectual property, my sacred words. That Bob is an actual crime.

Well when I first carefully listened to Like A Rolling Stone, I thought about Edie Sedgewick. I read a biography of her many years ago, before I knew of Dylan’s song, but don’t remember if Bob Dylan was in the book in any way. But thought of her after a few listens. Listen, NYC sounded turbulent and the country was the same at that time. But I have to say; I thought I led a too boring of a life at times , but wow, not as boring as you that’s for sure.

The claims that have been made by Clinton Heylin have in the meantime been confirmed by professors and journalists, illustrated with program notes, press clippings, photos, hospital records etc. So, you are totally wrong about Dylan’s presence in NYC in May ‘65.
Furthermore, you seem to have your “facts” mixed up yourself. In your post you claim that the Dylan/Sedgwick row took place in early 65, whereas in a previous post you claim it happened between December ‘65 and February ‘66. Heylin is clearly more consistent.
By the way, when reading your posts and replies, I cannot avoid having the impression that you are much more driven by antisemitism than by the truth. Or is that just a misinterpretation ?

I think you’re misreading something. Edie was passed on to Bobby Newirth in Dec. ’65, he introduced Edie to Bob in Dec. 64.
I think your understanding of the Jewish situation is skewed. The Jews are a powerful nation and cannot be ignored. I am sure you are aware of what they call their special relationship to the US. To ignore such an important and effective people would be a crime. Their might which is considerable should be acknowledged and accepted. Describing Clinton Heylin as a Dylan sycophant seems a bit harsh. He has written other books on Orson Welles, Shakespeare and Van Morrison, so he has a varied catalogue. He has also recently written about Dylan having been given access to the Tulsa archive, so again, he is drawing on primary sources for his opinions, which must surely give them a large degree of credibility?

Not familiar with Dan Isaacs and if JC is CJ Catherine James then she has been misguided in pursuing this suit. However if she is accurate in her autobiography she was with Dylan when she was thirteen. We’ll have to await the outcome of this. Catherine had a terrible childhood so I wouldn’t call her a monster. If she is JC then I don’t know how she can support her NYC claims.

Well, Bob Dylan was just accused of brutal rape by a former 12 year old, now 68. It was thought that the woman might be a former groupy named Catherine James, the author of Dandelion, her autobiography. I had happened to review her book eleven years or so ago. Dylan had pissed me off by altering my texts. I used this excuse to write a blistering post condemning his ass to hell. The essay got picked up by an aggregating site and Bueno, 7000 reads, twenty comments. I’s a internet star.

People seem to overlooked that life has limitations. That Death is somehow unnatural and a great tragedy that could have been escaped. Of course to die young by unnatural means is of course a tragedy of sorts. Your father was of course quite right. At eighty-four I am quite pleased to have survived so long with intact facultys. I am not praying to live to a hundred but I’m not going to commit suicide. If I survive every bastard that ever gave me trouble I can piss on their graves in immagination, certainly not going to go to the trouple of finding their actual grave. I do hope to survive a contributor to life rather than just another useless eater. How’s that for a confession.

His mom would have been 45 when he was born and his dad 52; and very few people had kids at that age back then.
i think he was probably born in 1919 and died over 100.

Broadening the focus a little the West has been the Light of the World although not in the religious sense. This is really fantastic. Using methods developed in the final form by Freud they have succeeded in hypnotizing the whole at one time. The technique used has gone unsuspected to this time.
The method is to make a great shout to put minds in fear so that the suggestion can be planted. This was done by shouting PANDEMIC you’re all going to die before there was any evidence of the virus. Pictures in Wuhan of a guy falling over dead in the street. Staged of course. The only thing that can save us is if every single person on earth has a vaccination. OK, the vaccine isn’t going to work because the damn virus is mutating hourly. This is going to go on for ever, get more vaccinations. Total complaince no different than slavery. They will not listen to any easy almost cost free solutions that exist. The Israeli and Dutch nasal spray is a perfect example. Go where the virus lives and cut off the oxygen food it thrives on.
Before the virus there was no microchip shortage, now there is. Supply systems are being broken down so that soon there will shortages in everything and like the Soviet Union there will be long lines. Then people will begin dying in masses. When John Brown organized his rebellion at Harpers Ferry; he was counting on the help of hundreds of slaves.
Almost NONE SHOWED UP; THEY WERE COMFORTABLE IN THEIR SLAVERY AND DID NOT WANT TO UPSET THINGS.
John Brown was betrayed by the slaves he was trying to free.
Brown told me in the jail at Charlestown that he looked for at least five hundred slaves to join him at Harper’s Ferry, that his army would be five thousand in a few days, and that he would have one hundred thousand in a month, all armed with Harper’s Ferry rifles he had captured, and that then five million slaves being in revolt, the whites would be at their mercy.
It was a brilliant plan. John Brown delivered on his promise. He did all the hard and dangerous work for the slaves, they only had to want to be free. But for what must have been two agonizing days of bewildered confusion and frustration, John Brown waited…and waited…refusing to surrender, fighting right down to the wire as his sons died at the hands of Marines commanded by one Robert E. Lee. John Brown was injured and taken prisoner. Law and order was restored.
The slaves chickened out. That’s why they were behaving strangely, they were wracked with guilt. After a year of careful planning, John Brown was left hanging (literally) when the slaves he was risking his life to free got cold feet.
You can’t free slaves from slavery. If they didn’t want to be slaves, they would be free, dead or in shackles. By definition, slaves want to be slaves or at least, they’re not willing to do anything to free themselves. John Brown only had 100,000 rifles and the best goddamn plan imaginable, but the slaves would have had to learn how to fire the rifles and that’s a lot of effort. And whenever he was weary of discussing a matter; he would always invoke the judicial approach: “30 days; next case”
I was so stupid as a child I thought it meant the next case would be heard in 30 days; not that a 30 day sentence was being imposed by the judge.
Daddy talked a lot to himself as Rose was often in another world (his wife).
Daddy would also say out of the blue when we were visiting his sister and brother in law, “I am going to sentence you to 50 years”
Then he would pretend to be the prisoner and plead:

Then back as the judge he would retort:

His brother in law / my uncle was made over on the Other Side; and was the mastermind behind what the prosecutor called “the biggest counterfeiting case in American History to date”.
He got 25 years with consecutive sentences; but it was knocked down to about 10 years on successful appeal; with them to run concurrent instead.
With good time he was out in about 7 years, this was by the late 1950’s. My uncle (daddy’s brother in law) was a terrific man.

About two years ago I made the following observations:

People sometimes forget why Nelson Mandela was in prison; I am old enough to remember the trial quite well.
I remember the judge (they had bench trials there); I think his name was Mr. Justice de Wet (sp?); at sentencing (and this is from memory; it was back in the 60’s) he said something to the effect of:
“The crime of which the defendant has been convicted is in fact one of high treason. The state has chosen not to charge him with that crime and thus the supreme penalty cannot be imposed”.
Mandela was found with enough explosives to blow Cape Town to kingdom come; and plenty of correspondence demonstrating that he intended to go through with it.
So he was no “political prisoner”; but a terrorist of the first order.
He may well have renounced those dispositions later in life; but back in the 1960’s Pretoria had no choice but to incarcerate him.
If someone in America was found similarly plotting here in 2021; should the Attorney General just smile and dismiss all charges?
I think not.
He would removed from office in three seconds and rightly so.
